WAAPA Audition questions

Hi everyone! I'm auditioning for WAAPA Music Theater next month in Brisbane, and just had a couple of questions for anyone who can help. 1. One of my songs, I haven't been able to find the sheet music for (don't want to give anything away - but it doesn't really exist). Would it be disadvantageous to sing something a cappella? It's a great song and I'm really in love with it. 2. Are the auditions held in front of the other auditionees? 3. I'm really not a very experienced dancer - and on the off chance I make it through to the dance audition, is it really complicated, or do they just want to see you can take direction etc? Also, what sort of shoes would I be expected to have for that? Thanks heaps everyone!!! Cross your arms and legs and anything else you can cross for me! :)

Some advice on WAAPA

Oh God it starts again... the dreaded questions about WAAPA auditions. Okay I'm not gonna waste your time with the lecture I'll leave that to someone else. 1. Do not and I repeat DO NOT audition a capella. This isn't Australian idol. You need to be incredibly professional in your audition and showing up with a song without sheet music would be terrible. If you can't find the sheet music don't sing it. If you are desperate to sing it ask around on this site maybe someone can help you out. 2. No you audition one at a time in front of a panel. You will only see the other auditionees before you go in and when you leave. The whole process takes about 15minutes. You sing your songs, do your monologue, chat for a bit and then leave. Only the dance audition is done in front of others. 3. You don't have to be a great dancer. The classes in the course are streamed into beginners, intermediate and advanced. You get put where you fit in (that's if you get into the course). The audition is not too complicated but then I am a dancer. If you can go to a few open classes before your audition to see what its like then I suggest you do it. The audition is basically run like a jazz class. Good luck.

I strongly agree... don't

I strongly agree... don't do a capella... Sheet music (in the correct key ) is viewed as part of the process... ie working with an accompanist

I do not think you would

I do not think you would actualy be allowed to sing un-accompanied as it seems to state that it is essential to sing accompanied by piano.. Don't try it! =S

Apparently the dance callback includes stretching/toning and floor work as well as a short jazz routine.. scary i know :s

Chookas to all auditioning at the end of November - excitment!!

Do NOT sing acapella. From

Do NOT sing acapella. From experience, the final callback is the only one involving other people. If you make it through you'll work with a partner for the acting audition and then have a group dance audition. It is run like a jazz class. It is not hugely complex but I recommend having done some dance before; get to some jazz classes if you can.

WAAPA song audition

During the singing audition can we act during our songs - one of mine is very humerous and I want to do the acting. I've gone through all the audition notes and I cannot find any guidance on this

Songs & acting

One would assume that if you are auditioning for Music Theatre they want to see if you can interpret the songs the way you see them. I would advise that you do the actions if you can pull them off in an exceptional way - if not, then tone them down to make them natural....
