Any Idea on Wicked Ensemble Casting?
Tue, 19 June 2007, 09:05 pmHi guys. I'm new to these forums. My name is Michael, I'm 18 years old and I'm from Victoria.
Wicked is is an awesome Musical and its originality is something we need more of in todays Musical Theater. I know a lot of people who hated (Ignorance) Musical theater until they either saw Wicked or listened to the Broadway Cast Recording.
I was just wondering, with the announcement of Wicked coming to Melbourne next year, has there been any hint of when casting dates for the ensemble will be? Also, who is set to promote it?
I would love to audition for the ensemble.
Thanks
Michael M-S

Ignorance? I don't like
Ignorance? I don't like musicals... but then I do like puppetry and absurdism. It's about taste, not ignorance. (I have seen good productions of musicals and bad productions of musicals; it's not because I have seen a bad production and was turned off forever, it's just simply not my cup of tea).
... Sorry to go off topic... back to the real discussion on casting for Wicked....

"Wicked is is an awesome
"Wicked is is an awesome Musical and its originality is something we need more of in todays Musical Theater"
Ugh...Imagine the millions and billions of dollars shows are going to cost as we rise and rise above shows like Wicked to create shows 'more like this'. I assume we're all somewhere in the ball park of Wicked figures?
I agree with originality (but is a prequel of the Wizard of Oz original? not being cynical but have a think...) I love original theatre (straight or musical). I love things that are different and a challenge and interesting to bring to the stage...or screen. But it has to be utilized effectively. Why is it original? For me an original show is something that is completely different or rarely seen- musicals that are made to make people think rather than just be a spectacle- that's a good one. Musicals that experiment with different types of music (Not a musical but the Circ Du Solei shows....the music in those thats different, and I love that! Out of this world stuff).
I think originality is out there...
It's opportunity thats needed. And costing millions of dollar to put a show on Broadway...it's going to be hard for the truly original shows to get there.
...that said, I don't know about Wicked casting...I'm sure it will happen eventually. There is still some time before the show yet. (Phantom has just started rehearsing and the Wicked set takes something like 16 weeks to build I've heard) so I think we can mathematically work out when casting will be...roughly....I'm not mathematical though.
I can predict though that when things do start stirring in that vicinity I'm sure there will be announcements here or somewhere!
Good luck if you do audition.

sorry, still off-topic
Hi all,
Been away for a month of touring and non-reliable internet.
thus you have been deprived of my company! :-)
so in response to responses here-
Wicked- 14 million to get to stage, money mostly coming from Universal studios. It IS an amazing musical.
However, very few shows will get this investment (mostly because many aren't worth it)
BUT- the Tony Award winner that year was Avenue Q, a truly unique and original show, with a far smaller price tag. It also opened originally off-Broadway. (AND NA- it has puppets!)
So, perhaps there is hope for other shows...
on the subject of Cirque- I know I'm being totally heretical here, but I find their stuff a little samey, what any talented group of cirucs performers could do with a large cash injection. However, massive kudos to them for getting started in the first place. To be honest, I wish I could get the same happening with my own group...
and finally- on the subject of casting. I haven't heard anything yet. Something I'd love to audition for, but I'm pretty sure I don't even nearly have the dance chops needed...
When someone does know, please post, as I am sure there are more than a few interested types out there!
It's the simple things stupid...

I love Avenue Q. I think
I love Avenue Q. I think it's fantastic! And I was going to mention that for originality...and I think it's doing such a mightly good job for a show that started off as a joke between the writers!
From little things big things grow!

well well...the little
well well...the little ignorance thing was meant as a side joke...but things do get taken out of context i guess. I shouldn't be apologizing as i didn't mean to offend anyone, but sorry to those who were offended.
It was meant as a joke and about those that i know that have pleaded Ignorance when they have said Musical Theatre is for pansy's and so on, or have never seen or heard any type of Musical Theatre.
Certainly didn't expect to get flamed with this post, especially on these forums. Ahh well.
Thanks anyway
Michael

Sorry Michael. I wasn't
Sorry Michael. I wasn't flaming. (The biggest problem with the internet is the lack of human vocal tone and inflection. Had there been any in your post, I wouldn't have assumed it was serious, but realised it was sarcastic)
