I've seen her on TV
I've seen her on TV if that counts Stacey. An interview last year which she giggled all the way through!
Seems a lovely, down to earth girl and I hope she gets the role if that's what she's after.

Looks like shameless self promotion to me.

Walter, google should be able to sort you out.
Stacey-Marie, it even says on her website that she's not doing it.

I am sorry to burst
I am sorry to burst anyone's illusions about this girl. Good on her for self promoting and putting herself out there, but she is really big talking herself. I currently live in LONDON. For one she doesn't have an agent, she hasn't even been seen in the last round of auditions for the show here, the casting ppl don't know who she is so the likelyhood of them taking someone they have never heard of back to Australia to star in the new production is not going to happen. They are going to go with an older, more experienced, well known performer. Vocally she is far too young to carry the role, just listening to her demo's, her technique is far from perfect and her voice has a long way to go before it will mature. Can we just remember the role was written for Kristin Chenoweth, a woman in her mid-late 30's, who has a much more mature and greater vocal ability. Also, read Stephanie's biography. All these 'concerts' she has been doing in London at 'Her Majesty's Theatre' - yes they are real, but they are also a concert called 'StarEFX' which are done by an Amateur company every few months and they audition in The Stage. But no professional over here would go near them. They are looked on mainly for school students to give them the chance to perform to their friends and family on a sunday in the theatre when 'Phantom' isn't on. This girl is really big noting herself as a 'soloist' in all these fab roles. Yeah sure embellish a bit, but don't play ppl for fools or tell big lies as you will always get found out. This girl has a LOT to learn about the industry. So for any official WICKED news I would keep an eye out at the OFFICIAL websites and AussieTheatre.com!

To set it straight once and for all
Wo wo wo, it seems some defence is needed here. I tried briefly above but feel I need to step in again.
I also live in London and I happen to know Stephanie personally.
I'd like to make the point that she has NOT ONCE said anything about playing Glinda in Melbourne, neither officially nor even to friends for God's sake. The only thing she has said, EVERY TIME it has been asked, is that she knows nothing about Wicked Australia except that Gordon Frost haven't cast anyone yet.
She IS playing Glinda in a section of a variety show touring the UK from early 2008 which may be where this confusion started, but NOT ONCE has she claimed to have been cast in Wicked Melbourne.
As I'm sure anyone who knows anything about this industry would agree, that would be ridiculously stupid and dangerous.
You are correct that Steph was not seen in the March re-cast for the London production. I believe at the time she was doing an opera at Sadler's Wells, and already had contracts for a London play and then a UK/US feature film until July/Aug. Lack of availability during the audition, rehearsal AND show periods would have made an application to Pippa kind of pointless.
As for the two Sunday Night Live shows produced by Star EFX, Steph did indeed have a lead soloist role for both Cats and Beauty and the Beast. Anyone requiring DVD evidence, please PM me. Honestly, I don't believe I'm having to do this.
Apart from the fact that Steph is the most modest and self-depricating person I know and so she would never claim anything like this, I know for a fact that she has already signed a contract for something which will prevent her from being in Australia from mid-2008 anyway. So she CAN'T do Wicked in Melbourne.
If anyone needs further proof, on her website, her myspace AND the Wicked Australia myspace, Steph has AGAIN denied these rumours, as already noted by many of the people who posted comments above.
I'm sorry to sound so frustrated but I know both Steph and this show exceedingly well and know that there is no fact to this whatsoever. I don't know how this rumour started but I suspect that someone saw/heard that an Australian was playing Glinda in a UK variety tour and drew the longest bow imaginable. I have no doubt that Stacey-Marie meant well by promoting her but it seems that she has caused far more harm than good.
Stacey-Marie, if you are able to perhaps it would be a good idea to delete this thread. Though I'm sure you mean well, you are playing with fire and someone else's career.
Anyone else, I too agree that you should find out what's going on from the Official Wicked site.
But for the record and as agreed on numerous occasions by Steph herself, STEPHANIE CARSWELL IS NOT IN IT!
Let this be the end of the thread.

She is a lyric soprano I think I read somewhere. I dont know to much about Stephanie Carswell but from what I have heard on her site she has a nice sound.

My understanding
I had the belief that Helen Dallimore was bringing the role 'home' for the Australian shows.
I am obviously completely out of the loop.

And for the record, she was
And for the record, she was a little diva on the Star Efx shows at her Majesty's; stating the production team didnt know what they were doing, saying the song 'Belle' from Beauty and The Beast was out of her range (well god help her then if she thinks Glinda is the part for her), hating dance numbers and never acting as a team player - thoughtless, selfish and rude, with, I agree, alot to learn about the industry.
LogosFri, 6 July 2007, 08:28 am
I don't know Stephanie
I don't know Stephanie Carswell nor Helen Dallimore, nor do I care who plays Glinda. I am however getting sick of the character assassination being carried out on this thread by people who almost certainly actually know nothing about these paopel and are basing their opnions on gossip.
The Producer and Director will pick the the actor who in their opinion is the best available person for the role and who will draw the best crowds.
Wait and see in breathless anticipation.
Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing.

If I may...
Having spent a good part of the evening trying to decide whether I was flattered that people are talking about me, hurt by the fact that they have taken the time to insult me, or worried about the potential damage these comments may cause my career, I now find that Logos has put into words exactly what I feel. So thank you.
I have a million things to say about everything written above but realise that there is probably no point. Those who know me will be able to separate the truth from the fiction and the fiction from the downright slanderous.
So from now on: if you know me, tell ME how you feel and not the hundreds of unsuspecting visitors to this forum.
And if you DON'T know me, then that's just it, isn't it? The thoughtless character analysis is unnecessary.
I realise that Wicked coming to Australia is big news and people are wanting to talk about it, but given the number of times I have said that I am NOT playing Glinda in Melbourne, I think it's quite safe to keep me out of it from now on.

Walter PlingeFri, 6 July 2007, 05:43 pm
What the Hell are you talking about?
Oh dear!
It seems that someone has a servere case of 'I'm so envious that I can hardly breathe'.
I usually (as a professional singer and actress) would NOT get involved in this sort of rubbish but your comment has made me so mad that I have to!
1. Stpeh sang 'Beauty and The Beast' NOT Belle. Kate sang 'Belle'. I know because I was in the show.
2. Galinda is written for a soprano. Beauty and The Beast was VERY VERY low. She had been promised a transposed backing track which never happened and so the song was infact too LOW for her. Galinda doesn't go anywhere near that low so she would sing it easily
3. Steph DOES have an agent and does work professionally all the time. Trust me - she's my friend and we hardly get to see each other anymore
4. Steph is in no way Rude, selfish or thoughtless and you have obviously never met her if you think she is. Maybe you're confusing her with someone else. She is one of the most genuine and sweet hearted people I have ever met and to be honest - to dippy to be rude to people.
5. During that show I can tell you for a fact that Steph spent time out of rehersals working on dance routines and making sure she knew what she was doing. Most of that cast was a complete shambles (the directors and producers will tell you that) so having someone like Steph in the cast was a god sent. Beleive me - there were other people singing leads in that show who still didn't know their lines on dress rehersal.
6. People who write these sort of things about other performers 'Have no idea what the industry is about'. I think in future you should keep your thoughts to yourself. The music/theatre industry does not like it when ametur (yes you are ametur) performers consider themselves to know better that the directors, producers and casting directors and I can tell you for a fact that they are on Steph's side and she has very good working relationships with alot of these people.
In conclution - if you are persuing a career in this industry - SHUT YOUR MOUTH! No professional director will want to work with you if they find out how you behave and how you treat other performers that you have never met!
You are a very silly girl and have no clue what you are talking about.
GET AN OFFICE JOB BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN THEATRE!!!!!
Walter PlingeFri, 6 July 2007, 07:11 pm
Myself also being a casti
Myself also being a cast member in the SFX production that your talking about 'Lil Pix' I have to say what a load of cobblers your talking! Diva like would be a certain someone on the dress rehearsal just stood there with her arms crossed refusing to sing because she didnt know her song yet. Im sorry but that is what is called unprofessional, so many people wanted solos in that show and have done a number of them before they got a chance!
Steph once said she thought the song was too low, but like the professional she is just got on with it and worked with what she had! If you don't even know the correct song then I can't really give your obviously envious comment any further credit. It's actually rather laughable.
You're right, the production team obviously didn't know what they were doing when they let someone as childish into the cast, i only assume you were in the cast because you must have been there to make your very unfounded opinion.
Walter PlingeSat, 7 July 2007, 01:57 am
I see that the Steph
I see that the Steph support is in full force, which can only be a credit to one so gorgeous in every possible way.
Never before have I known anyone to work harder, complain less and appreciate more than Steph did. I would have no hesitation in recommending her to other producers, or indeed re-casting her in future productions of my own.
I can only imagine that you have either mistaken her for someone else, or that perhaps my novel belief in paying my performers instills in them a greater sense of loyalty, pride and work ethic than you seem to have achieved.
You'd best hope that Steph isn't as thoughtless, selfish and rude as you're making her out to be because, rest assured, if that kind of defamatory comment was left about me, I'd be doing my damnedest to ensure that the next phone call you received was from my lawyers.
Neville TalbotTue, 10 July 2007, 12:05 pm
Well done
Stephanie-
That was well handled, and good luck with everything. You'll find you're not the only one anonymously destroyed on this site unfortunately. As I'm sure you understand this industry is full of people like this.
I don't know you, but am sure the fact that we're all talking about you means that you have at least some skill. :-)
On the matter of the subject of this thread- I just read on the official Wicked (UK) site that as per my original thoughts, Helen Dallimore is coming to Melbourne to do Glinda.
So maybe we can all leave Steph alone?!

Maybe its time
Maybe it's time this entire thread is deleted. It has become just a series of character assasinations that will profit no-one.
The thread was meant to be about a supposed potential Glinda, not about Diva's, tantrums, who is or not ready to sing, perform, or behave in amateur or professional theatrical groups. Seems like the thread has come untangled and now being pulled apart by anyone with a grudge or bone of contention.
I implore whoever has the power to perhaps delete this thread and begin again.
Wicked deserves better, and so do those in the industry on all levels.

steph
I know the thread has swerved away from the topic of steph, but reading what some people have written about her it, it has angered me so much that i've had to correct this vindictive behaviour. Steph is a lovely person, far too dippy to be rude and has never once been slefish, rude, a diva or any of the absolute nonsense you people have written; nor has she EVER said she was going to be Glinda in the west end/asutralia whatever! she is singing Glinda songs in a musical gala (which I am assuming lead to this silly misunderstanding), but she never once took it to the extreme that some of you have. I can excuse this point as it probably was an innocent misunderstanding, but for those of you judging her character and being malicious enough to try and make people dislike her you really need to think before you speak, and with regards to the Star EFX show in particular, get your facts right before you begin to voice your so called stories and opinions.
Steph is one of my closest friends and she's caring, generous, friendly, lovely and far too talented for her own good! (a point that she a) doesn't believe herself and thus b) would never brag about).
If you're that jealous of her talent go get singing lessons and practice 8 million times a day and you'll be great yourselves and won't have to snipe about people like Steph to try and make yourselves feel better.
Hmph!
Walter PlingeMon, 23 July 2007, 02:29 am
Re: Steph / Star EFX
Just wanted to say that every company can be glad to have Steph as a cast member. She is very enthusiastic, bubbliest person I ever met, and a real team player.
Regarding Star EFX, professionals DO take part in these shows and realize what a big mistake it was. The producers go on about the West End standard and can't even fulfill the standards of a high school production. Star EFX give leads to people who cannot manage them and it looks very amateur. For them, you are just a money-machine and they don't care about your performance, vocal range or suitability. So much for the West End standard!!!
I can say that Steph was given the a very low song to perform ("Beauty and the Beast", not "Belle") and although was promised a transposed version by the directors, never received one. This is what the supposed "diva strop" was over.
Steph is a great vocalist and I can't wait to see her as Glinda in the Wicked section of the touring Variety Gala opening next year in Liverpool.
I wish her all the best of luck with her career.

Wicked Melbourne
Hey guys, just thought I'd clear up a few rumours. In a recent press release, John Frost stated that the auditions for the Melbourne production of Wicked would be held in December 2007, in Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney. So NOBODY HAS BEEN CAST YET! Don't freak out!
