La Saille
I knew a girl who went there a couple of years ago who dropped out after the first term. She said the facilities were amazing but the practicality of the course and some of the teachers were not up to scratch. Check out the comments about "Coda" - It seems like thats a great course and it's also very reasonably priced.. A choreographer friend of mine was at the showcase and she said it was up there with the best she has seen. Well done SOK

Asta: I am studying MT @
Asta:
I am studying MT @ Lasalle and Im not sure if Starbuck is talking about the same place because we had Dennis Follington who set up the WAAPA course up until this year and now we have Tony McGill as our head and he is amazing. All of the international teachers and guest directors are amazing not to mention the workshops we have with leading Broadway and West End performers.
The Facilities are not the best @ the moment, but we are moving into our new campus (also check out the Lasalle website its amazing!) in April 2007.
The course is pretty much identical to the WAAPA course as Dennis set it up and the performers in all three years are incredibly talented. It is incredibly hard work not only with the course but moving to another country, but if you can get past the first semester unlike some others who havent worked hard enough then you will find it very rewarding, challenging and fulfilling.
It is a fantastic option if you are willing to look outside Australia.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the insight
Thanks. I have actually been offered a place there next year but I'm having a really hard time deciding whether I should go or not. I've read the pamphlet, talked to students, read the website and talked to family and friends about what they think. About 99% of me is saying GO DO IT NOW! I just have to convince that last 1% of me.
I just thought maybe if I threw this subject out there I would get some insights of others who don't really know me and are willing to put both the positives and negetives out there bluntly.
Thanks for the input. Anyone else out there know anything about this place?

Asta what have you got to
Asta what have you got to lose. Of all the Asian countries Singapore is the safest, most civilized, clean and very welcoming. Any MT course is worth doing and Im sure LS will be great, you can only try it out and if its not for you, you can come home.
I suppose it depends how much you want something and how hard your prepared to work. Or maybe the doubt is leaving your family, which I can understand.
For those saying a place isnt good when ppl leave, to me, doesnt always reflect the establishment but those who are either home sick or dont want to do the hard yrds. Just like any school you have your good and bad teachers, thats life unfortunately.
I am a firm believer of making up my own mind. If I believed everything I read I wouldnt be anywhere. Everyone has an opinion, and thats fine but we are all individuals and we need to find out things for ourselves and make our own judgements. If they are wrong, well we have then learnt a valuable lesson and move on.
I know it must be hard to make a decision but you have time dont you? doesnt the course start later in the year?
Good Luck and let us know what you decide

Hey Asta,Just a quick post
Hey Asta,
Just a quick post to support everything Tim C has already said about LaSalle - in particular I'd like to mention how happy we all are with Tony McGill as the head of the programme. Its really clear to all of us that he has awesome plans for the course.
Did you audition in Sydney? We might have met at the auditions there...
Hoping you come to a decision you're happy with!
Cheers,
Tim G

Nothing to lose
Nah I auditioned in Perth with a friend of mine. She's got nothing keeping her here so she has done the last bit of covincing for me. I'm gonna give it a go and see what happens. If nothing else i get the experience of living in a new country and I get to help a friend out. She doesn't want to go by herself.
Should be good.

ANYONE OUT THERE
Hey all!
I am thinking about doing Music Theatre at LaSalle. I have heard from only a couple of people how much better it is than WAAPA. More importantly does anyone think/know if it's as good as the same type of course in the USA like at Michigan or CCM (which are way better than WAAPA)?

Let's not have any more of
Let's not have any more of this "(Name of institution here) is so much better than (name of institution here)!"
It's stupid and pointless. In the end it's the student who decides what they get out of the course, and yes, whilst some courses can have better lecturers or better structures, or whatever, it still comes down to the determination of the aspiring performer. It's ridiculous to sit there saying that there are schools out there better than WAAPA- sorry, Paz, but you wouldn't know unless you'd been to all three, would you? If you actually have, I'd love to hear reasons as to why they are better than WAAPA.
I don't know why "better than WAAPA" should be on the criteria for a good performing arts school. WAAPA is great. Other schools are great too. Shocking, I know!
Everyone needs to get over it. Sometimes I wonder if the people who post around here have personal vendettas against WAAPA becasue a lot of posts seems primarily concerned with defaming the school. Are there just a lot of embittered ex-auditionees or what?
callankneale88Tue, 27 Feb 2007, 09:25 am
agree
i am currently studying musical theatre at waapa and i have noticed that aswell what do people have against waapa i have only been there for a short time but i can already see that it is the place i want to be and can it really be that bad look at the people that have come out of that place some very talented people and if your bitter cause your not there dont rag the institution if you cant get into to waapa try elsewhere but if your attitude stinks to start with and your gonna rag them for not accepting you maybe thats the reason behind them not wanting you they want people the are going to stick by there institution. whether it be waapa la salle or any other company if you dont put the effort in you will get nothing out of it and anyone planning on going to lasalle it is definatley worth while i did a short course there and it was fantastic i have also done the waapa masterclass very different but both as good as each other just different methods............................ goodluck guys CAL
Walter PlingeTue, 27 Feb 2007, 05:26 pm
Hi Cal,I agree. Thats
Hi Cal,
I agree. Thats great that your at WAAPA....how is it all going? What shows are you going to be doing? Im so jealous.
Luv
WAAPA wannabe!
Neville TalbotWed, 28 Feb 2007, 05:18 pm
I hope
That you don't perform your songs the way you write Cal. I had to stop and breath at the end and then start again to work out what you actually said... :-)
Punctuation?!
I think WAAPA rocks. Lots of other people do too. and hundreds of talented actors and performers working out there didn't go to WAAPA.
What does this mean?!
It means that it isn't necessarily about the school...
peace out
Nev
It's the simple things stupid...

Performing Arts courses in QLD
Hi,
I am currently studying in Rockhampton QLD, doing a Bachelor of Performing Arts, the university we are a part of is also linked with La Salle. We have a Music theatre course in Mackay that i have heard is pretty good, but just as an example the performing arts degree I am doing is the best thing i could have found. I study dance drama and music as well as technical teatre aspects, and we learn from 'Industry Mentors' internationally recognised performers as well as trained lecturers. We still perform musicals every year, but we also learn more vaired skills that helps to ensure we are more employable over other areas as well. if you decide to look for somewhere in Australia to study, take a look at www.cqcm.cqu.edu.au and check out the courses offered here. i would reccomend it as do professionals in the industry!
