Hey, i have been offered a place in the BA music theatre course too but i was also offered the same course at WAAPA so ive accepted the WAAPA offer. Is there anyone out there who have been offered a place at WAAPA?

I want to audition there

I want to audition there next year. How many do they take in their BA in Ballarat. I heard the teachers are excellent there and they have become an excellent alternative to WAAPA. A friend said that a couple of ex waapa teachers are there now and the course is going from strength to strength. Ashtoneliza are you from Vic. Anyone know about BAPA or are currently in the course to give some info
Walter PlingeSun, 17 Dec 2006, 08:04 am

DO NOT go to BAPA, they

DO NOT go to BAPA, they think they are fantastic and they aren't. It isn't a very nice learning environment and they treat you like teenagers.
RaveMon, 18 Dec 2006, 06:09 am

did you go there. I heard

did you go there. I heard the teachers are great and it concentrates on the dance element more than waapa. I heard yesterday from a friend that her freind is in 3rd year and loves it. said its just the best course. The ppl are friendlier than waapa and more caring
Walter PlingeMon, 18 Dec 2006, 01:34 pm

I'm going to BAPA

Hey, I've been offered a place at Ballarat which I will be accepting. I hear such different accounts of the place from different people that I now refuse to listen to rumour and will make up my own mind. Besides, any MT training is better than none at all. I was really impressed with the audition process at Ballarat. Much friendlier than the WAAPA auditions (which I freely admit I totally screwed up) but I felt that at lease Ballarat were giving me a chance instead of writing me off simply because my forte is singing and not dance. If anyone's looking for a housemate... drop me a line.

Why do you need to

Why do you need to undermine WAAPA in order to make BAPA sound better? I have heard great things about both schools.
Walter PlingeMon, 18 Dec 2006, 07:34 pm

both schools offer

both schools offer different and great things and i think it is wrong to badmouth any school. I mean think of the students for starters. If you were a student or teacher for that matter at one of these drama schools would you like to come on here and read that the school their going to/ teaching at is crap when it is just not the case. I think people should think before posting these things because alot of comments are very hurtful. And no i am not a student at either school.

Its human nature, jealousy

Its human nature, jealousy and justification when those criticise. However, I agree all schools are good its only that some supposedly have a NAME that gets students further. BAPA is relatively new and WAAPA has been around longer. WAAPA has had to work hard to build such a name for itself and BAPA are getting there. NIDA is also trying to get their share of the MT market and travelling well. Whatever school you train at, at the end of the day, if your talented work will come. Look at a Theatre program, not all performers come from any particular school, they are from all over.

Undermining...

I was not undermining WAAPA. I stated that I had a better audition experience with Ballarat, and I also stated that my WAAPA experience was largely due to my own bad performance on the day. However, I was pretty flatly told that as I have not been dancing "all my life" that I would not have much of a chance (even though I have been singing and acting for most of that time, as well as being a fairly successful Irish Dancer. But that don't count). There are only three institutions that offer Musical Theatre as a BA (that I'm aware of). I auditioned for two. I got into one. I'm happy =)
LadyEllaTue, 19 Dec 2006, 09:36 am

I agree completely

>>>> However, I agree all schools are good its only that some supposedly have a NAME that gets students further. BAPA is relatively new and WAAPA has been around longer. WAAPA has had to work hard to build such a name for itself and BAPA are getting there. >>>> I totally agree, and I think that it's due to WAAPA's brilliant (and well-deserved) reputation that I was disappointed with the audition process. For a school with such a high professional reputation, I was not expecting the audition to be as casual as it was (only David & Crispin, no accompanist so David played). It may have only been that way in Adelaide because they had very few applicants, but it did make me feel as if they were not really interested.
Walter PlingeTue, 19 Dec 2006, 02:02 pm

i agree i did not like the

i agree i did not like the way the audition was composed. not to say the school is bad or anything like that i mean just look at the talent it produces. It's just that in the audition i felt like they didnt even give a crap about me or what i was doing which was a little off putting, they came across as fake or something.. anyway thats not to say they are fake i just found that audition process very off putting. but hey showbiz was never ment to be easy !!
Walter PlingeThu, 21 Dec 2006, 06:44 am

I agree too. I went to the

I agree too. I went to the BAPA audition, totally different atmosphere to that of WAAPA. The BAPA second call back was great and interactive although I forgot my monologue. BAPA's reputation is growing. Im interested to know how many students BAPA takes each year.
LadyEllaThu, 21 Dec 2006, 09:47 am

BAPA Intake

They said at the auditions that they make 30 offers, but that they do also have a wait list for places not taken. I was talking to some First-Years at the audition that said they started with about 26. By the end of the year it was something like 22...
Walter PlingeThu, 21 Dec 2006, 10:00 am

Thanks for that. I know

Thanks for that. I know there were a fw interstate ppl who did their second call back yesterday cos a mate of mine did it. They didnt say how many they were taking this year but did say there may be a wait list. What did the first years think of the course??? did they give feed back. Is there alot of dance???
katieprocterThu, 21 Dec 2006, 10:31 am

Congratulations!

Congratulations to all of those who were accepted to all of these schools/academy's it's an absolute honour and you should all be extremely proud of yourselves and all your hard work and to all of those who didn't make it don't let it get you down maybe you just weren't what they were looking for this year so just look at it as a reason to work harder and longer so that next year they can't say no!
Walter PlingeThu, 21 Dec 2006, 11:07 am

Wow they still had

Wow they still had auditions yesterday, thats amazing. Its becoming so popular. Hey Justin I stuffed my mono and song last year and got in . I was shattered after the audition. Anyone else experience that???
Walter PlingeThu, 21 Dec 2006, 03:16 pm

I want to know how many

I want to know how many have got offers into BAPA. Are they taking 20 or 30 this year. Who is or isnt accepting their offer into BAPA MT
Walter PlingeThu, 21 Dec 2006, 03:20 pm

Are there any ppl from perth heading over to Ballarat?
Walter PlingeFri, 22 Dec 2006, 02:28 pm

There was a girl from

There was a girl from Adelaide who lived in Perth this year and just finished the WAAPA certificate. She auditioned this week for the BA MT at BAPA. She was granted a late audition cos of her WAAPA showcase in Perth. BAPA told her cos all the offers had been given she will get a second round offer should anyone decline. She also has second call back auditions in London at 2 MT schools in June2007. They accepted her video audition and want to see her. How cool. My friend was talking to her just after the BAPA audition. Do you know her?
TylerJFri, 22 Dec 2006, 10:57 pm

Heehee, sounds like

Heehee, sounds like Sophie! The only thing about Sophie that outweighs her talent is her incredible work ethic. That girl is going places and I'm so glad to have spent this year with her. Go Soph.
Walter PlingeSat, 23 Dec 2006, 10:31 am

Thats great about Soph. I

Thats great about Soph. I heard she's been really sick this couple of weeks and had to audition. Thats showbiz. Well done babe. good luck with the offers.
Walter PlingeTue, 26 Dec 2006, 01:30 pm

I know of 3 pple who are

I know of 3 pple who have been offered places and are not taking their BAPA spots. Two of them are taking the VCA MT and the other WAAPA.
Walter PlingeFri, 29 Dec 2006, 01:01 pm

I heard the same pple are

I heard the same pple are taking VCA MT spots instead.
Walter PlingeFri, 29 Dec 2006, 01:04 pm

Do you mean instead of

Do you mean instead of BAPA, yes word around the traps is VCA spots are being snapped up.
Walter PlingeFri, 29 Dec 2006, 02:40 pm

When someone finds out let

When someone finds out let us all know about Ballarat. Like whats the course like??????
Walter PlingeSat, 30 Dec 2006, 06:34 am

It must be crap cos no one

It must be crap cos no one knows anything
LadyEllaSat, 30 Dec 2006, 08:03 pm

Rubbish

Just because no one who frequents this board knows anything doesn't make the course crap. It's been said before but evidently needs to be said again - Just because Ballarat is not as well known as WAAPA et al. does not make it a lesser institution. *LM*
Walter PlingeMon, 22 Jan 2007, 01:14 pm

Opps - Ballarat

I fell in love with the ballarat MT program. i auditioned straight out of high school but stuffed the audition. Wanna hear a great story? When i auditoned, i was, ahem, nervous os much i think i actually crapped myself, ahem. I went into the audition, sung my stuff, but i was wearing black pants with one of those zips down the side. Half way through the song, i managed ot step on the zip, and somehow.. i broke it. So my entire pants upzipped itself while i danced... The song i was singing? "Rose's turn" from Gypsy... Ahh Irony. (anyone new ot the scene - dont feel left out, Gypsy is about a stripper) Just thought i'd leave my story!
Walter PlingeTue, 30 Jan 2007, 07:13 pm

Yeh but.... did you get in.

Yeh but.... did you get in. You may have stuffed the audition but sometimes they look past that if they see talent My friend just got in to this years course. She was really crook, had laryngitis and sang her song crap, but her acting is good but she is a great dancer. They didnt tell her she had a dance audition they only said singing and acting. but she danced in a dress and bare feet... not so bad... well not as bad as you. My sister was tessie tura in Gypsy... its a great musical. they would have loved it
