All you fans of Jon English's rock musical "Paris" - here is plenty of advance warning that next year (Nov 2007) this will be staged at the Pinjarra Civic Centre (WA) by Murray Music and Drama Club. Auditions will be in early Auguust. Enquiries to Carole 0401588962 We will of course need lots of men - hence the 9 months advance notice!

Jill Jane's post

Is that your real name?  Anyhow, if you're old enough to type that question on this site, you'd have been old enough for more than 2 opportunities in musicals last year.  I know this because my daughter was in two - beginning and end of the year - and she's just 9 - she was 8 when she was in The King and I (Mandurah Murray Drama Group) and 9 when she was in Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (Rockingham Theatre Group).

I don't know obviously but my hunch is you're referring to musicals put on by MPAC.  MPAC isn't the ONLY place that puts on shows in this area :)  And yes, if you're young they don't consider you have the experience they look for and so you'll have buckleys of landing something with them until you get some years on you (depending on how old you are now) and much more experience, and so you should be looking further afield to get that experience - which you won't mind doing if you love doing this type of thing but you also need sympathetic parents prepared to drive you back and forth!  I think you have to be prepared to travel a bit - there are theatre companies in Rockingham and Kwinana who put on musicals too and Mandurah kids do get roles with them as well - but they don't advertise in our local papers.  You might find them listed on this website perhaps?

The Rockingham place is called Rockingham Theatre Company but I can't remember offhand what the Kwinana people call themselves... I'm willing to bet, however, that there are people on this group who will know and may post the phone numbers :)

Kwinana Workshopi i

Kwinana Workshop i think...Its listed on this website. Keep your eye out also on Mandurah Little Theatre. Always welcoming to new members (Alot of younger people with the group these days) and I believe they will be auditioning for a musical in April? Havent seen Paris but no doubt the show will be fantastic if your directing Carole - I'll be there!

The Pinjarra Club is called

The Pinjarra Club is called Murray Music and Drama Club and often stages shows using children - we are currently rehearsing for "The Music Man" as a case in point. Likewise Kwinana Theatre Workshop last year staged "Alice in Wonderland" and as already mentioned Rockingham Theatre Co. did "Joseph". (While I'm on here I'll just mention that we could use a few more men for Music Man so ring me please 0401588962 if you are interested!) Regarding "Paris" (thanks for your kind words Sky!) - this one is not a children's show , although I usually select two or three children at auditions to fill out the ensemble and work in with the adults where possible to give all the crowd scenes an air of reality. For audition information check out the audition page on this site! Hope to see you all at the auditions, Carole

Mandurah Musicals

MPAC is not the only theatre in Mandurah that does musicals. Mandurah Little Theatre is quite knows for their misicals such as "Grease". This year in april they are holding auditions for "We Will Rock You". Tho you have to be 17 to be able to audition. Keep an eye out tho.
