WAAPA audition panic
Fri, 20 Oct 2006, 02:14 pmI have my WAAPA audition in about three weeks and would love any advice.
My singing teacher is a pop teacher so i feel a bit alone.
So any advice from song choice to what i wear would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

There is work for actors
There is work for actors everywhere. if you are what they are looking for. THere is artist employment and unemployment in every city in Australia. Having graduated from a drama school gives you a good chance... but it still doesnt guarantee anything. The experience and the training is what you should focus on. Getting the work is still hard work. But thats what we all love isnt it? The challenge?
Perth has a very strong arts scene, its small, but its quality work.
** It takes a lot of work to be an overnight success **

Know your pieces
With 3 weeks to go, I would recommend getting to know your audition pieces...WELL. I assume you're auditioning for Music Theatre, so in terms of what to wear... something that you're comfortable in. I wouldn't recommend anything overly showy or too much make up - you certainly don't need to wear dance wear/shoes unless you're invited for the dance callback. Make sure your pieces are binded together in a way that makes it easier for the accompanist to flip pages (masking tape is generally recommended and not files with plastic sleeves which reflect) and mark it up clearly with any dynamics, tempo etc. Be friendly, be yourself, and have fun!

Sheet music
I've been taight that generally in auditions tape your sheet music together so that it's in one long line, so accompianists don't have to flip pages. And obviously always mark cuts clearly.
I have never heard of Solid Silver Platform Shoes...you can order sheet music in through Musgroves Music in thre city and they're ususally pretty prompt. Although with a month to go until audition you may be leaving it a little late.
Good luck this yr everyone, enjoy!
