Hey people just wondering what all your views and stories etc are about males with a higher chance of getting in in teh case of lower auditions by their part. Anyone know any info about how much chance you have being whatever gender, and cahnces etc for the music theatre courses (BA and cert 2) Alsoa ges, and what they really look for in ages as to who to accept!! hope you all have stuff to say! Ben

If the musical theatre

If the musical theatre courses are anything like the straight acting courses at these schools, there really isnt a mould that they try and fit you in. There isnt a specific age etc... And from my experience there is generally half male half female or pretty close to it. Guys probably have a better chance just because the ratio is more in their favour with less auditioning. Sorry if thats not a lot of help. ** It takes a lot of work to be an overnight success **

Dependant

There are less men than women who audition for these sorts of things, so the odds will always be in favour of the men, as Alex has already stated. That is just the nature of the industry, but if we were to hypothetically say that the number of people auditioning was exactly the same then the odds are irrelevant. As the intake is a 50/50 mix, there is no real comparison to make. In effect, there are two separate intakes; one for men, one for women.

What you then need to take into account is things that you simply cannot know;

  1. What are the teachers looking for this year?
  2. Do they have a set agenda (and I do not mean this in a negative way) based on the shows they have planned?
  3. What are the shows they have planned?
  4. Who's on the panel?
  5. Is the focus to be singing, dancing, movement? A bit of all three?

All that you can do is go in there, show them what you have got and hope that what they are looking for is someone just like you.

WAAPA

They take roughly 50/50. In a recent year they took 10 guys and 8 girls just because they thought the guys were stronger that year. In terms of ages etc... it doesn't matter, but they are reluctant to take ppl straight out of high school unless they are exceptional. Just do your best, they will give you feed back if they think that you need another year etc.. Matt

in terms of getting in with

in terms of getting in with less males auditioning, is it much of a difference? and does anyone know around how many people audition for BA and cert mt? are the figures a lot in favour for males getting in or are there a lot of males and a lot of females all auditioning? any thoughts or knowledge would be great thanks brad xx

The odds for men

Even accounting for the fact that a significantly smaller number of men audition than women, it does not really do much to adjust your odds. While I am not aware of exact figures, you need to be aware that people from across Australia and Internationally will audition. That is still a large pool to select from, male or female. You have a better chance than the girls, but it don't mean it will be easy.

From my understanding 1000s of hopefuls (both male and female) audition.
