The Dreamchild Comes to Beaumaris
Sun, 9 July 2006, 12:37 pm'Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do
… when suddenly a white rabbit with pink eyes ran close by her.’
Thus begins Lewis Carroll’s immortal children’s classic, ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ – as does the eponymous heroine’s magical and soul-searching journey, throughout which she encounters some of the most immediately identifiable and delightfully outrageous literary characters of all time. Danny Forward (Musical Director of Beaumaris Theatre’s SMILEY: THE MUSICAL; THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE; and the 2005 Christmas Revue, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!), has affectionately adapted the original text, set Carroll’s ingeniously nonsensical poems to music, and composed a number of original songs (including ‘The Caucus-Race’, ‘Who In The World Am I?’, ‘We’re All Mad Here’, ‘In This Style’, ‘Smile’ and ‘Important’) to devise Beaumaris Theatre’s family show for 2006, DREAMCHILD: ALICE’S MUSICAL ADVENTURES.
An amazing production team has been assembled, spearheaded by Director Fred Pezzimenti. Probably most familiar to Beaumaris audiences from his recent return to ‘treading the boards’ in his captivating and award-nominated performance as ‘Mr Tumnus’ in last year’s THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, Fred is a highly experienced and innovative Director, having worked with such musical-theatre companies as ASPECT, MLOC, Panorama Youth Theatre and PLOS.
Danny Forward will be Musical Director of his own score, ably assisted by his beloved Roland (RD300-SX stage piano!), who makes his third appearance at Beaumaris Theatre.
The ever-patient and supremely talented Choreographer, Camilla Threadgold (50th Anniversary Christmas Revue; LONG-GONE LONESOME COWGIRLS; and 2005 Christmas Revue, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!) will be putting the cast through their paces in such numbers as ‘The Lobster Quadrille’ and ‘The Croquet Ballet’. Welcome to Wonderland! We’re all mad here!
