What is a Hip HOpera you may ask?
A Hip HOpera is a regular theatre production with one major difference…the script is read entirely in rap!
South Sydney Youth Services & Links to Learning will be running an 8 week (two days per week) workshop where YOU get to perform in a production at the end!
You don’t have to be a rapper or actor/actress to do this workshop, we start right from the beginning!
Throughout the 8 weeks you will be introduced to the world of theatre including:
- A screening of the only Hip HOpera ever released on DVD “Carmen: A Hip HOpera” starring Beyonce Knowles of Destiny’s Child.
- Acting/Voice Fundamentals
- Script Writing
- Performance
- Sound/Lighting
- Make-Up
- Prop & Costume Making
- Opera
- Hip Hop/Lyricism
- With excursions to Sydney theatres including a trip INSIDE the Sydney Opera House!
Participants must register for the workshops prior to commencing (Course Starts 24th April 2006). Please see the attached flyer or email jay@ssys.org for details!

Well it is the first one
Well it is the first one we've put on but maybe if it goes off in Sydney we'll be able to scrape up some funding to do it in other locations. Sorry!
