Went to see Mandurah performing art centres "hairspray"last night. I must say the production was a definate improvement on set and costuming for Stray cats theatre company .Choreography was really impressive and the chorus were very energetic and seemed to be having fun. Lots of laughs were had by all and stand out performances were made by the girl playing Penny Pingleton and the guy playing Seaweed...Corny Collins was very funny in parts also. The intepretation of his character was different from the movie..very cheesy but it did work.another standout was Traceys father. very good portrayal Few dissapointments were in Maybelle. she was a great singer but seemed highly awkward especially during Big blonde and beautiful where she totally forgot the audience ..Tracy...the young lady had a great singing voice indeed although seemed breathy at times) her acting was okay for the most part but given Tracey should be the best thing onstage next to others, she did kind of look reserved and awkward when she should have shone..i did hear that she is a relative newcomer? so perhaps thats what i was seeing? All in all though a very enjoyable night had by myself and my daughter and her friend who are still taking about Link.heheheh :-)
