Re: Faust

Well worth shelling out the big ones for. Not really an opera buff myself and don't know alot of french, but throughly enjoyed it. Production values are amazing. Lighting is by Nigel Levings, who won a tony for his work on Lurhmanns La Bohemme . Bruce Martin wa singer is fantastic The first act is 1.5 hours just to let you know. Opening night was full and I believe tickets are selling well. Performs tuesday, thursday with final performance saturday 28/8/

Hi Leah,

This isn't particularly well known, but you can get rush tickets half an hour before the show - ie. 7:00pm. Just go along to the BOCS office there an get tickets. I think they're $15 each.

Enjoy. Its a great show - long, but great.

(Ok. I'm biased - I'm in it, but its good anyway - especially the looney scene! ;-)

Re: Faust

Sorry Leah...

Am not going to manage to see this one myself...
However the opera itself is well worth seeing in ANY production.
When it was written it was considered dark and gloomy and somewhat dramatic.
These days its considered quite a tuneful romp...
Eg the rousing soldiers chorus I always think sounds somewhat like a broadway kick line ;-)

If you are only seeing one opera by the WA Opera this year and you are not an opera buff, see this one, because trust me the last one for the year, Norma, is really not one for the casual opera goer.

Mind you OzOpera are coming in September with La Boheme for one night only at the Octagon, which I am going to miss due to Earnest, and I'm seriously thinking about catching it in Bunbury (Look out Sis, I'm calling in for dinner!)
Also the Australian Opera Studio are doing The Marriage of Figaro later.
and don't forget the Royal Carl Rosa Opera Company (sorry... the Carl Rosa Company) and HMS Pianfore.

[sigh] I'd swap all of them just to see the Australian Opera's production of one of my favourite opera's The Love of Three Oranges next year in Melbourne or Sydney.

Spoke to Kim Martin at rehearsals last night and he said it is one of the best productions he has ever seen by the WA Opera.

If you can, it is obviously one to see

Damn!
