It has to be seen to be believed.

"Women have often played Hamlet in the past. A current actress, Fiona Shaw, recently had some success as Richard II at the National. And if that can happen, thereÂ’s no reason why a big, beefy comedienne shouldnÂ’t play Bully Bottom, especially since she proceeds to give a funnier, jollier performance than many of the male actors IÂ’ve seen in the role. But FrenchÂ’s presence has shaped and, I feel, somewhat misshaped the production."

RE: Dawn French's Bottom

Hmm... intriguing... do I not recall a recent-ish production featuring Tracey Woolrych in the role of Bottom?

Or has someone spiked my homebrew again?

RE: Dawn French's Bottom

It must have been very recent El, because Tracy was a "newcomer" only a few months ago during PIAF.
