Members and friends of the ITA (WA), the Association of Community Theatre (NSW) and the Theatre Association of South Australia may be surprised to discover that they do not exist!

The Victorian Drama League, established in 1952 to support the amateur theatre world in Victoria, makes the following astonishing claim on their new website:

The Victorian Drama League is the only such organisation in Australia and only one of two in the World.

The site's author and editor of Theatrecraft, the VDL magazine, responded to my initial enquiry justifying the claim because VDL has a Library with 28000 scripts, Tapes books etc. and ACT(NSW) doesn't.

I've not yet had a reply to my response that the ITA(WA) also has a library. So perhaps VDL is not alone after all?

Cheers

I checked the site - am I correct in understanding that if they are one of two in the world - they therefore must be the Worlds southern branch!

Maybe it's just cold weather that blows thru there on occassions, They say it tends to shinks the grey stuff -
or could it be a spinoff from them thinking they are the next theatre capital of the world.
Surely it has to be just one of those virus thingies - Kennettitus - the poor soles.

Hey - hang on they could be the eastern branch of ITA - we must be the other one 'in the world' they refer too.

In that case when was ITA founded, I doubt if it was before 1952, but there again wasn't ACTA founded in the 1950's - THEREFORE as it was the fore runner of ITA - we might be the OLDEST IN THE WORLD?
