Wed, 10 Mar 1999, 07:25 pmFrom the ITA Link newsletter March 1999:This Masterclass is tentatively booked for Sunday 2 May. Entry forms will be included in next month's ITA Link newsletter or available from the ITA office. The facilitator will be Kathryn Hanlon who graduated from the WA Academy of Performing Arts in 1990 and is currently pursuing a BA Performing Arts majoring in Voice Studies. As well as performing in theatre, film and television, Kathryn has narrated talking books for reading impaired, devised and implemented a course in improvisation for schools and the community and teaches classes in vocal technique and historical theatre at Edith Cowan University. The workshop will be twofold. Firstly finding the performance voice and maintaining it and then working on vocal character. The participants will work on easy exercises to incorporate into a personal voice warm-up that will improve projection and articulation. Time will be given to simple procedures to "sound" a space and group work to focus a cast. Vocal character will look at how a performer researches accents and voice traits to help build character. The workshop will benefit both beginners and those with experience in the area.
