Doubling Up
Fri, 21 Feb 2003, 12:41 pmThis is something IÂ’ve been thinking about for a while now. IÂ’ve noticed that there is a lot of doubling up going on. Different theatre companies are doing the same shows, often in the same year.
Is there a lack of scripts to be found? Are people just coincidentally choosing the same scripts? Or are Directors seeing the shows at other companies and thinking to themselves “by crikey I’d like to do that”.
What do people feel the protocol is here, how long should a director wait if they want to do a show thatÂ’s already been done? Should they wait at all? Is there enough of an audience in WA (or other states) to sustain, for example, three productions of A Midsummer NightÂ’s Dream or two of Jack the Ripper?
