PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE people!!!!! When someone posts an audition notice on this page RESPOND TO THEM PERSONALLY!!! This means clicking on their name at the top of their message and sending them an email. Posting back onto this page and telling the whole world you are interested IS POINTLESS and above all ANNOYING.

I know this has been said before (thank you Amanda) but the other readers of this notice board do not need to become involved in audition time negotions and CV swapping. You have a far better chance of getting an audition by emailing the director and asking for one. Not just randomly telling the world you are interested and waiting for the Hollywood movie offers to start flooding in.

OK it's early and some stole my "Have you seen this chicken?" mug, but, grumpy Leah or no, I beleive the point is still a good one.

Nice little pointless, bitchy comment. Welcome to the team.

But you also bring up an interesting point. When does one qualify to become an old fart? I remember thinking the same thing when I first started; inject some new blood, get rid of the old school...
Now, some 15 years later, the arts scene keeps evolving, ebbing and flowing, and some of those original "old school" that I wanted to shove on are STILL hanging around, getting work; only now I think "Good on 'em", and aspire to be as talented and productive as they have been in their careers. In fact, I realise that that was my goal all along, to BECOME an "old fart"!

So how do I know when this goal has been achieved? I guess once this year's "new blood" start including ME in the group they want to move on, I qualify...but of course, that's exactly when I'm going to hang around (just like a fart, I guess), to enjoy my newly achieved status.
(I was pleased to note, when we got reviewed for Soap On A Rope, that the reviewer expressed surprise at how "young" I still am...so I guess it's not a function of age, just how long I've been hanging around.)

I think the approach to adopt is not so much to wait for the old farts to blow away and hope that will make things improve (believe me, that's not enough); I think if you consider yourself a "new breath of fresh air" then it's up to you to breeze in and start whipping up a storm!
The arts scene is not going to improve if you just waft around, wishing that someone will move on to create a space for you. You need to blow your own trumpet, start to kick up the dust, and do your best to overtake us...then there WILL be an amazing arts scene in Perth, as the challenges mount and a cross-flow of ideas, energy and experience combine into turbine power.

So blow me!

Cheers,
Craig
