You know what would be nice......
Wed, 31 Oct 2001, 08:58 amI'm sure this idea has been canvassed here before and there are certain logistical implications but why don't directors list their casts after auditions on the Billboard forum? So often you read about the audition then hear nothing else til it appears on the "What's On".
It could serve as advance publicity; people may well read the lists and think "Oh, yes, I like her/him. I'll go and see that when it comes around". So often you chat to people and they tell you they've just finished a play which you would have gone to see if you'd known they were in it.
It's also a bit of a team building excercise for actors (and crew) to see their names along side their fellow thesps and partners in crime for the next few months, makes them feel like a team.
The logistical difficulty is of course that (not wishing to stir up an old debate) people who did not get in shouldn't really find out by not seeing their name on a public noticeboard. It may require a little dilligence on the part of the director not to over excitedly post a cast list without checking with those they've cast or informing those they havn't.
The final advantage is of course that people would finally get to put faces to names. Having heard a name before or seen it on this site but having no idea who it belongs to is endemic in our "close knit theatre community". People would finally get to see David Meadows' wooden leg, the fact that Craig Williams is really a woman and that I am grossly obese.
Any comments?
