Has the "unofficial" Les Mis at the Regal web site been defaced?

In the credits on the front page of the site the director's name has been obliterated.

> Director: @#$% ^&*!
> Musical Director: Paul McCarthy
> Choreographer: Juliet Owen

RE: Miserable Miserables

hmmmmm...... i don't know whether i should break into my huge speel about all this.

I'm a stage technician for the show (and no we don't get paid - some of us, including myself, don't even get our names in the program).

I am also one half of the partnership that is imagine unlimited (the web design team) that was asked by Jane via Gill (she won't speak to crew directly) to remove all instances of her name from the site. so..... thats the reason.

I think grant's comments on the imagine unlimited forum (http://imagine.unlimited.com.au/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.pl?board=lesmiserables) are quite true: do your research before getting involved in a new company. I think the only reason people got involved in this in the first place is that it is LES MISERABLES.

It's LES MIS! C'mon, its gotta be good!
hmm... and i haven't even started yet.

Oh, and to the fuckhead that mugged me last night and stole my mobile - I'm not happy jan.

RE: Miserable Miserables

Hee hee- maybe it's the theatrical equivalent of the old film tradition of "Alan Smithee".

Explanations available on request.

RE: Miserable Miserables

Hee hee hee- OK....

If you see a film directed by someone by the name "Alan Smithee", it's a pseudonym. Usually put to use when the director wants to "disown" themsleves from the film they've made. I think that's right, innit Meddoes??

Not suggesting this is the case with the Regal Les Mis- but I think I'd urinate myself senseless if it was the case...

Besides Pauline, you should know who Alan Smithee is... he's formualted most of your policies...

Rumours circulated recently of Smithee's death, with a Thomas Lee apparently fresh out of film school to take over his projects. These rumours are apparently greatly exaggerated... see links:

RE: Miserable Miserables

Call me idealistic.

Call me naive.

Call me stupid.

Call me what you will, but I get filled with an overwhelming disappointment at the apparent keenness of people to cut down their fellows in the industry.

I am saddened at the manic delight that people seem to be taking in trying to belittle so many people on this board.

What happened to good old community spirit?

As for any comments made about the website and anyone's name being present or otherwise, perhaps it would be better to discover truths rather than spread vicious rumours without knowing facts hmmm?

Not that I am claiming to know all the facts myself....but as a member of the cast, I am feeling very disappointed that my enjoyment of the show is being dulled by all this negativity amongst people in the industry. And I continue not to understand WHY there is all this negativity. As I said, call me idealistic, naive or stupid as you please.

Alan Smithee Madness!

M'kay, this is one for Simpsons nerds only......Dr J and Mr Donald, I'm lookin' at YOU!!!!

Episode: Homer is trying to find out what the "J" in his middle name stands for......it starts with C Montgomery Burns trying to employ intelligent humans to work at the power plant. He decided to do a recruitment film, which Waylon Smithers directs. The film stars Homer, Lenny and Carl and is SO shockingly shite, that when the credits role it is claimed as an Alan Smithee film!

BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Er, sorry, but I found that really funny..........sigh........YES, I shall endeavour to get out more......

RE: Alan Smithee Madness!

BART: Hey, what the heck is your middle name anyway?

HOMER: You know, I have no idea. Hey, Dad, what does the "J" stand for?

GRAMPA: How should I know? It was your mother's job to name ya and love ya and such. I was mainly in it for the spanking.

You and me both, My Lovely Jules. You and me both....

RE: not so Miserable Miserables

Unfortunately for it's producer it is not a sell out season unlike the one at the Maj. which was backed
by government funding and put on by Cameron Macintosh Productions. Although very large this
company failed to supply the crew or cast with comp tickets. So i am very grateful to have received
them this time from an amateur producer with less moneys.
I am Andrew Merefield known backstage as Drewsta. I worked happily in amateur theatre for over
7 years before getting paid for what i do now as a technician. Now working as a professional with
an amateur company brings me great satisfaction that i can share my wealth of theatrical knowledge
with all that are curious and wanting to learn. Like myself they are starting out or continuing their own
journey in the magic of theatre from the ground up. As theatre has never offered 4 year
apprenticeships or junior training schemes and most university performances are done in a form of
supervised training situations it makes it hard for people to obtain the on job experience required to
receive pay for their labor according to their qualifications. Fortunately this is available in these
pro-am productions.
After meeting and working with the current team on "Les Mis" I would be happy to place most of
them in a paid position on our crew when an opportunity arose. Previous to this if anyone had
applied for work with us I my have thought them inexperienced and therefore unsuitable for the job
at hand.
I believe the "Les Mis" team is doing a great job, both on stage and behind the scenery.
I am proud of the West Australian producer for having the guts to put his own money up front and
having faith in his team to pull off such a well know musical that is up for much critic. I also hope that
he has great financial success so he will provide this opportunity again for all involved and some new
faces as others may move on to bigger and better.
Drewsta
ps. as to the claim of getting cheaper tickets at the Maj performance i'd just like to inform people that the tickets were two dollars less at $45 for ok seats and the show was twelve years ago, with no GST and i think icecream was cheaper too!
