RE: inc

As far as I know, `inc' after a company's name means `incorporated', so if your company is not incorporated, it wouldn't be appropriate to use the abbreviation.

Hope this helps, good luck with the new company :)

RE: inc

It does indeed mean incorporated and if you are considering starting up a company, incorporation should certainly be a part of that start up process.

Becoming an incorported body has an impact from an insurance/liability point of view (someone correct me if this has changed) in that it offers a degree of protection to the members of the company.

You will need to have a constitution and a few other documents when you apply for incorporation. Rather than reinventing the wheel, why not get in contact with a group that already exists and see what you can 'pinch' from them.

Good Luck,

Les

RE: inc

Yeh! your right Les -

If you are in WA you can contact the 'Ministry of Fair Trading' 1300 304014 or www.fairtrading.wa.gov.au - 219 St georges tce Perth.
They are very helpfull and will supply you nearly all the information in a specail package (for free) and if you follow and comply with thier instructions there should be no reason your group cannot be incorpoated under the Associations Incorporations Act 1987.

This will protect each and every member, as you can sue and be sued, thier property and/or that of thier parents (who can be adjioned to any action in the case of a minor or under age members}

However, as for your constitution (as Les suggested) you can either get one from a like group or from fair trading a generic type one that can be modified to suit your requirements.

Take the time and do the effort to become incorporated, it's not that exspensive, this will save a lot of heart ache later.

if you have any problems give me a ring - (08)93377682 and I should be able to orginise a copy of a suitable constitution or whatever.

RE: inc

At the risk of sounding like a conservative old grump (Which my friends will assure you I am) why try and re-invent the wheel. There are more community theatres in Perth than you cna poke a stick at. Surely one of them can give you a forum!

Richard,

If you want any help with anything just give me call. :)
Hopefully with the three of you something might get off the ground as opposed to my project which hasnt even started moving yet... but def. talk to Joe if you have any questions or anything, he knows what he's talking about.

(not implying that no-one else does btw.)

Am i a friend? I don't think you're being a conservative old grump.

Or, perhaps i'm one too?

New youth theatre companies appear to spring up with astonishing regularity and - as i believe Amanda suggested elsewhere - perform a couple of shows and then die as the prime movers burn out.

i think there's a great deal to be said for linking with some existing, established company - not least for the experience and financial resources that they may be able to bring to bear.

On the other hand, i wonder how many companies would extend a welcoming hand, clutching a sizable cheque, to kickstart a production featuring the talents of a group of predominantly younger performers? No strings attached.

There are lots of companies, but perhaps not so many enlightened ones.

Cheers
Grant
