AUDITION / REGISTRATION NOTICE SKANQUES - the musical 23 FEBRUARY @ 4.30pm - 6.30pm Bastable Street Hall, Ashfield SKANQUES - THE MUSICAL is the major production for the 2009-2010 INNER-WEST YOUTH THEATRE PROJECTS (produced by Ashfield Youth Theatre). The project is an extension of the original 2007 production and now incorporates the outcome of the recent SKANQUES - THE BAND project of last year. SKANQUES - THE MUSICAL will bring both of these elements together to create a completely new and original musical production opening across the Inner-West of Sydney throughout June 2010. The new musical will concentrate on the demise of a high-school pop band (called "The Skanques"). The play investigates the time when young women's friendships are challenged by the introduction of boys and parties... the pressure to grow up too fast... and the media's role in the objectification of young women in popular culture: aka Britney Spears (hence the name of the band... get it???). The project gives voice to the stories of young women, spoken in their language. The music will be full of attitude and speak the truth about the teenage experience in 2010. SKANQUES - THE MUSICAL will require its cast to: " Develop the original script further - script writing " Learn and sing the existing music (www.myspace.com/theskanques) " Write new songs " Devise choreography " Perform in 3 venues across the Inner-West of Sydney on 3 consecutive weekends (Fri and Sat) in June Male and female cast is required. The project will be directed by James Winter with musical direction by Luke Dal Santo. Attached is a full rehearsal and performance schedule. If you are available and interested, we'd love to hear from you. An audition / registration will be held on Tuesday 23rd February from 4.30pm-6.30pm at Bastable Street Hall. Young people wishing to be a part of the ensemble (ie: non-speaking parts) need to register and participate in the afternoon's workshop.
