I suspect no-one is going to believe me after nearly a two year wait, but it's literally only a couple of weeks away from launching.

:-)

And I really need YOUR help to finish it!

Aside from fixing dozens of bugs that have plagued the old site for years, there is a LOT of new functionality in the new site. Inevitably this means lots of testing to be done.

So, could you please, please, please! visit the site and try the following:

*logging in, if you have an existing login and password

*registering, if you don't have an existing login and password

*edit your account and create a detailed profile

*adding and/or editing an event

*adding and/or editing a company

*post a new topic

*post a comment

*moderate a topic or comment

.... anything else you think you'd like to try!

If you're looking for ideas, check the Frequently Asked Questions about the website and look for what the various roles are capable of doing.

It may be frustrating initially, particularly if you're familiar with this site.

However, I'm not giving detailed instructions here, just tasks, as I want you to let me know whether you were able to work it out or whether I've got it completely wrong and it's just too, too hard!

Oh, the temporary address while we're testing this:

http://home.it.net.au/~gmalcolm/

Feedback please!!

Cheers
Grant

PS. Yes, I know there's no insult button yet, thou tottering boil-brained malt-worm!

I'm having trouble accessing the link - I'm just getting an error page.

Thanks for the note, Na!

*sigh*

Murphy at work.

;-)

No issues for months. Then on the morning that I ask people to have a look, there have been problems with the server since 6.30am.

Nothing to do with the site itself.

I'll post another message here as soon as I see that it's up again.

Unless someone else beats me to it.

Seems kinda fine. I particularly like the entertainment news section. Could something be done about the colour? It has the same graphics colour as this one.

That is a lot of work mate! Well done and thank you.

Easy to use, no glitches adding anything so far.

Hi Na

Thanks again for the feedback!

Sorry, hadn't updated the db since I imported users almost a year ago. Should work now.

For anyone else that is looking... you can retrieve a password if you know either your login or the email address you registered under.

Thanks very much for the feedback.

Yes! Something can be done about the colour - almost. If you login and edit your account, you'll notice that at the very bottom of the screen in your personal settings, you can select a different theme that will apply to the entire site as long as you're logged in.

Sadly, it has essentially the same colour scheme and an even more retro design than the default.

:-\

The good news is that any number of new themes can be made available, they just have to be designed. So, if you know any good web designers.... because there's ample evidence that I'm not one!!

Good. Keep looking otherwise they're bound to turn up as soon as I switch us over.

While you're there and logged in, try updating your profile adding Biographical Details, Experience and Skills info.

You might also want to look at adding your location to the user map on the Bio Details screen.

I don't suggest that anyone makes any substantial changes or adds any important information anywhere else on the site, as I will wipe most of the content and do a fresh import when we're ready to go live.

I can only guarantee that information in personal profiles will be retained.

Is there a way to search for a company - or am I blind?

Re: Help! new website is back

And I get this:

user error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1
query: DELETE FROM user_related_content_relationships WHERE uid = 6974 AND rtid = 2 AND nid = in /home/g/gmalcolm/public_html/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 66.
warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/g/gmalcolm/public_html/includes/common.inc:384) in /home/g/gmalcolm/public_html/includes/common.inc on line 192.

when I try to add my company with the 'add to actor' link etc.

Re: Help! new website is back

Ok, here's another one... When I tried to access the Melbourne links section, I got a blank page. Not an error message, just a blank page (and yes, it had finished loading).

This is the link:

Re: Help! new website is back

I just keep finding these things... I'll stop in a little while.

But....

I found this on the submit company page:

Submit group
Before you add your company, please check very carefully that your company is not already listed on the companies page.

Once you have completed the form below, you will be provided with manager/admin access for the company you have created. The company will appear on the companies page.

You may receive and authorise membership requests for the company and requests for manager/admin access.

(yes, that is a copy and paste - it's repeated on the page!)

think there may be some server issues - a hangover from the downtime earlier today perhaps

> Is there a way to search for a company - or am I blind?

Searching is a bit crippled at the moment, but as you found, you can browse a list of companies by state.

> when I try to add my company with the 'add to actor' link etc.

Ah! suspect this is because your company is pretty unique in not having any past or upcoming events associated with it. Normally the add actor etc links will only appear under productions. Adding an actor to a company would cause an error message.

Thanks again!

Cheers
Grant

PS. didn't you see me waving frantically in the chatbox while you were browsing? keep an eye on the charbox block to the left, you may see messages from people in the chatbox.

No, I didn't notice the chatroom stuff - it was so slow at times that I was doing other things in another browser. Sorry for all the posts - that's what happens when you sit down and do these things at 1am.

Launch of new website

Dear all

Coinciding with the eight birthday of this website, a feature-packed new version of Theatre Australia will be launched next Thursday 16 March 2006.

The new site features:

- faster downloads
- no more multiple passwords; one personal login does it all!
- no timeouts on logins
- moderation: dump those worthless messages!
- expanded news: all the latest from australia and the world
- upload images
- maintain your own blog
- maps: these are really cool!
- new venues section
- detailed personal profiles - cast your show here!
- much, much more!

If you haven't already checked out the new version, take a look at the development area here:

http://home.it.net.au/~gmalcolm/

Please bear in mind that any content added to the development site will be erased and replaced when we switch over, so don't get too carried away adding details just yet.

The switchover will entail a brief period of downtime on Thursday 16 March, during which you may find that the website is inaccessible.

The switch from company passwords to personal logins for managing company details and events is bound to cause some confusion. An email will be sent to all company email addresses shortly advising of the changes.

Once the new site is live, email will be sent to all 4,800 registered members providing a run down of new features.

While there's been fairly exhaustive testing of the new website, there are bound to be a few new problems turn up, but it's not too late to lend a hand with some last minute testing:

http://theatre.asn.au/read.php?f=18&i=8042&t=8042

*tired but so happy to see this finally going live*

Cheers
Grant

Hey Grant, I just logged into the new site, and noticed the 'my workspace' thing. That's such a great idea; we'll all be able to check what we've posted without having to do a search!

Hope the transfer goes well!
