I have a suggestion for your site, as a new member I would love to have a tips board, somewhere where people, who have had experiance in the theatre industry, can share little hints and thoughts for people like me who want to know how to.. say, calm down before a show or hints to practice before you ordition. Please.. I am a member of four theatre groups and none have even answered my pleding for information. It is a daunting thing getting started in the theatre scene.

Thanks

Emma

Re: advice & tips please!

I support this idea. I think it would be great to have more content that informs our users. This should include oft-asked questions, such as;

* which agent can i go through?
* which school can i go to: WAAPA, NIDA, VCA?
* how many fingers am i holding up?
* how do i directly reply to a poster's email? should i click "reply", and then post all of my personal details, including sexual preference?

* where can i find scripts/monologues/audition pieces?
* how many times should i post my message to each board before i will be flamed for spam? mmmm....spam.

Now, where's Grant?!

My first thought was, advice and tips come pretty thick and fast on this site...you've really just got to ask a question and there'll be several of us who'll have an answer or at least an opinion (!).

But Alan has highlighted a few points well worth considering within Emma's suggestion. Some questions keep popping up periodically, and although Grant always seems to be able to find past posts to support his points, searching back through the extensive history of threads is tedious and daunting.
Previous tips and advice that would be worth referencing get swept away in the annals of time.

Even current posts often get buried, once a myriad of responses criss-cross around them and push them down the list.
If we had a section containing tips and good advice, it probably shouldn't be a forum for comment, but an easily readable indexed page or pages....a FAQ page. Some of the frequent answers (FA's ?) might simply be a weblink pointing the questioner to other sites with the info.

Perhaps, as current readers come across a point within a post that deserves being transferred to this FA "hall of fame" they can say so, in the course of normal discussion about it. And if there are any suggestions to improve or update a piece of advice it can be suggested the same way.

Of course, the $64,000 question is that this will require someone in charge, to be an editor...Who?

I can see you Grant, hiding behind the bed....

...turning a gimlet eye in my direction as someone who once volunteered to assist with FAQs etc. Things kept coming up....stage things, travel things, cosying up to Derek Jacobi's dog....

We need to talk, eh Grant?
