Romeo & Juliet in the Campus...
Sat, 5 Oct 2002, 03:21 pmHi everyone,
Noticed in the What's On section - Romeo & Juliet wasn't listed as being on at Hayman Theatre....so heres my little spiel:
------------------------------------------------------------------
(the following is from the Hayman Theatre website at http://haymantheatre.curtin.edu.au)
William Shakespeare's
ROMEO AND JULIET
A passionate and physical production from Angela Chaplin
Romeo and Juliet is at once a celebration of the purity and fulfilling nature of young love and a condemnation of bigotry, ignorance and obsessiveness.
“In this production I want the acting to do the work of the play. It will all be about what the actor brings to a space. The vigour of their bodies, the rigour of their minds and their contemporary experience of young love.
Music, fighting and sex will walk hand in hand with poetry, philosophy and craft. The actors will be asked to give their best many times over to do justice to this great work……and I can’t wait to go on the journey with them!”
- Angela Chaplin
Angela Chaplin has been Artistic Director of Deckchair Theatre for ten years. Her directing contributions at Deckchair have included “Emma’, ‘Barmaids’, ‘Long Time No See’ and over 20 other productions.
Her productions have also toured internationally to Europe, Canada and Japan. In 1992, she directed ‘Frankenstein’s Children’ for Teatro Nacional in Caracas, Venezuela and co-wrote the much-acclaimed ‘Ningali’ which won an Edinburgh First Award for Best New Production at the 1995 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Angela Chaplin and the Deckchair Theatre will be staging Romeo and Juliet in Kings Park in this summerÂ’s Shakespeare in the Park.
