right rates
Fri, 30 Aug 2002, 01:11 pmokay, maybe someone here could help me...
i am wanting to produce a play early to mid next year written by a Canadian writer. Now i have been in contact with her and as she doesn't have an agent or a set fee for independant companies, she has asked me to name my price...
i just want to know what the standard in Perth is!
it is in two-acts and never been performed here (well, once in Wagga Wagga but that doesn't count...). We are an independant company and need to know asap as funding rounds are finishing soon...
have been in contact with Australian writers guild and they sent me here....
just want some advice!
that would be fabbo

A consideration might be to donate a percentage of the takings to a charity of the playwright's choice.
What you pay the author will most likely depend on how many people you anticipate will come to see the show meausred against the costs of putting the show on.
Not much help really, am I? But the charity angle does seem to work with most authors who are "represented".
