I have now been promoting this venue as a community theatre site for 4 years now, when my first blog on this site was posted, there was a good response and a number or theater folk picked up on the cause and followed my application to the City of Bayswater to have this hall made available as a community theatre. I have pursued the cause over the years with little response until a couple of months ago when I became aware that the hall use was being discussed in council and that public comment was invited as to its use. I contacted a few of the friends involved in the original request and proposed that we combine and lodge a joint application for the use of the hall. To further promote this I opened a Facebook page titled "Maylands Hall" to tell the story and raise awareness, this attracted other parties with an interest in the hall. The outcome was the formation of a working group to collectively lodge an application for the use of the hall, this group represented various performing arts disciplines that complimented each other and we believed we were compatible. The "Maylands Hall Performing Arts Interest group" was formed, a few meetings were held to discuss common interest and the possibility of a joint application and a draft proposal formulated. We have now submitted our application to the City of Bayswater and addressed all the criteria in their documents. Our application, If successful will present a new performing Arts Centre in the community and provide a variety of entertainment for Perth Audiences. As soon as the results are announced, and if we are the successful applicant, we will be negotiating with the Council and funding agencies for the fit out of the hall, then comes the expression of interest for directors and other groups to stage performances. Follow the story here and on Facebook "Maylands Hall" as the story unfolds. Jim Chantry Facilitator "Maylands Hall Performing Arts Interest group"
