AUDITION INFORMATION
Auditions will be on Sunday, 26th May 2013 at Koorliny Arts Centre. All auditionees are required to make an audition booking by contacting the director, Ian Cross, via email (ianlivesinoz@gmail.com). Please put ‘Little Voice Auditions’ in the subject field.
Auditions will take place between 11 am and 3pm but a time must be booked. Please arrive 154 mins prior to your audition to fill in the paperwork.
Acting Audition
• Please prepare a monologue for your audition and perform it with a North Yorkshire accent or “Northern” accent. This may be from the script.
• Excerpts from the script will also be given at the audition, as a cold reading.
Singing Audition
• Auditionees for the character of Little Voice must prepare a song in the style of Shirley Bassey, Marilyn Munroe, Judy Garland, Dusty Springfield or Edith Piaf.
• Please provide a backing track for this part of the audition.
Notes & Tips for Auditionees
• Dress appropriately in something that you can sing and act in.
• Do not be afraid to seek clarification of any instruction that you do not understand.
• Be punctual and if you are running late, kindly contact Jon Lambert on 9467 7118.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
Little Voice: 17 - 30. A singing role. Incredibly shy, Little Voice escapes the pain of the loss of her father and the hysteria of her alcoholic mother through mimicking the great singers of yersteryear while holed up in her room.
Marie Hoff: The mother of Little Voice, 40+. Rough, haggard, and desperate for
attention. She is a drunk who is attempting to be more than she is but failing at it.
Sadie: Little Voice's neighbour, 30+. slightly mentally deficient and quiet.
Billy: Little Voice's love interest, 20 - 30. He is a shy loner, very unsure of himself
and ordinary looking but not comical.
Ray Say: Little Voice's promoter, 40+. Ray is an agent of bad talent trying to make it
big. He is a conniving playboy who can easily take advantage of others.
Phone Installer: 30 - 60. The phone installer is the typical working man and
somewhat firtatious.
Mr. Boo: Mr. Boo is a seedy worrier who is unattractive in a slightly sleazy way.
All auditionees will be asked to read from excerpts from the script. An ability to learn
accents is essential. Northern English accents required for characters. Ages are
provided as a guide only and will depend upon the casting mix.
