KNUTS presents
“THE CANTERBURY TALES”
PARTS ONE & TW0
by Geoffrey Chaucer
(adaptation into modern English by Stephen Quinn)
An hilarious adaptation of a classic mediaeval text
SEE ONE OR BOTH INSTALLMENTS!
On a journey to Canterbury to visit the shrine of Thomas Becket, thirty pilgrims famously entertain each other with stories…
…of love and lust, stupidity and passion, chivalry and greed…
In an evening that soars from farcical comedy to touching romance, we present several of these sparkling tales…
Comic, scurrilous, bawdy, poignant and tragic:
this is a PROVEN evening of fun for all ages...
PART ONE:
The Pardoner's Tale: (Western) So many people are dying, that Death needs a good talking to. Three men set out to find him. Chief ‘Running Gag’ tells them Death may found under a nearby tree. They find a huge pile of gold coins...
The Miller's Tale: (Carry-On film) A gullible carpenter sits in a tub on the roof waiting for the second Flood, while his wife dallies with the student lodger. A visiting curate, collecting for the orphans, returns with a red hot poker!
The Reeve’s Tale: (Silent Movie) Two cyclists are cheated by a flour Miller. Penniless, they stay the night, playing Musical Beds with his wife and daughter.
PART TWO:
The Franklin’s Tale: (Sci-Fi) A newly married woman fears her husband has been lost in space. She makes a bargain with a half-Vulcan to ensure his safe return. On her husband's arrival the Vulcan wants payment - a night of hot steamy
The Wife of Bath’s Tale: (Mock Shakespeare) A knight of King Arthur’s court presses his uninvited suit upon a comely maiden. His ‘commuted’ punishment is to discover what do women most desire. A wizened old hag gives him the answer, but at a price…
The Merchant's Tale: (Victorian Melodrama) A lecherous old villain forces marriage on a young village girl, but his sight fails. She climbs a tree to pick fruit, while he stands guard, but a hunky serving man is already hidden in the branches...
Directed by Stephen Lee and starring David Meadows, Hannah Day, Daniel Buckle, Angelique Malcolm, Shirley Van Sanden and Mr Lee, himself!
