At the weekend I was talking to an elderly, but reasonably fit lady who was a regular attender at the Melville Theatre. She no longer drives so has to stand at a bus stop to go and come back from the theatre only one kilometre away. At nights, especially after the show, she is too frightened to do this. She still very keen to see shows but has had to give up the theatre trips.

Not just for this theatre, but has anyone any suggestions, or is there a theatre group who has a few 'friends of the theatre' who can pick these non-disabled fans to let them see a show?

Gordon, if you can pass on

Gordon, if you can pass on her details, I'll see if I can arrange something for her. www.meltheco.org.au

beautiful idea, Gordon!

perhaps it could even be looked at in the manner of "companion passes" for people who bring patrons with disabilities to the theatre, or maybe give them both the seniors' rate. Or just let them do it because they are nice, compassionate people who want to share their love of theatre.

Grant?

Maybe this is something for which us theatre clubs could apply for a grant. Hire a Coaster to pick up and drop off our elderly patrons for the matinee. I'll suggest it at our next meeting. www.meltheco.org.au

companion passes

I think this is a great idea. Give the person who picks up the older member (as I said hse is NOT disabled, so doesn't really need special transport) a concession price on their ticket, it would be a good token thank you for the help.

I will get this pleasant lady to contact the theatre directly.
