The horrific events in the former Yugoslavia have been remembered today with the arrest of Ratko Mladic for war crimes. By great coincidence today sees the opening of a play at the Subiaco Arts Centre by an Australian playwright that deals with the very events – a bloody and brutal conflict that saw the population of Yugoslavia driven apart – from the viewpoint of a young and naïve war correspondent who travels into the heart of this grim chapter of European history. ‘Clark in Sarajevo’ by Catherine Zimdahl is directed by Jenny Davis, a well known Perth director, actor and teacher. The cast is a group of 16 highly talented local young performers between the ages of 16 and 26 who won the privelidge of being in this show in highly competitive open auditions where more than 50 young people vied for a part. Last night saw opening night and WAYTCo’s 21st birthday party and the production runs until June 11th at the Subiaco Arts Centre.
