(URGENT CASTING AND AUDITIONS IN PROCESS) - Hello, I'm a local director just returned from several years working in film production overseas. I'm now writing and directing my own films, and am preparing my second short film, an adaptation of Pulitzer prize winner John Updike’s famous 1961 short story A&P. (link below) The script requires 4 young actors, three girls and a boy, all in the 15-17 age bracket, older actors would also be suitable if they look the part. The actors would play the parts of: Sam, Queenie, Tall Girl, Plaid (see link to short story below). I'm also looking for: Lengel (The manager) 45-55 yrs, The elderly woman customer 60-70 yrs, Stoksie (about 20 yrs) Updike's language in describing the young characters may sound a little unforgiving. My intention, as director, is to portray the vision of a dreamy, romantic 17 year old boy. All roles (not just the Queenie character) will be filmed in a photogenic manner. The film mixes a dreamy aesthetic (the girls) with cold realism (the plot) and humour (mainly at Sam's expense) but is never vulgar. The themes are timeless and remain as relevant as when they were written in 1961. The film will be produced professionally. Shooting will be over 2 or 3 days, outside of school hours, and all in a single Perth location (a small supermarket). Actors will be paid. Level of remuneration has not yet been determined, and will depend on the project's final budget. Any participation by minors in the film would naturally require necessary parental authorization. For casting purposes we require: -One or several headshots -One shot of the actor standing -The actor’s height in cm. For minors, these must have the approval of the student's legal guardian. These materials can be sent to: casting@tfdfilms.com All materials will only be used for casting purposes and no copies will be made, upon request they can be deleted/returned to the applicant. Thanks, Martin Beilby -A&P original text: http://www.tiger-town.com/whatnot/updike/ Cv & previous work at: www.tfdfilms.com
