Phlegm in throat - singers

Any advice/suggestions please for the that phlegm in throat sensation that makes you want to clear your throat (in the middle of a song!) for singers?

My daughter is suffering bad allergies (time of the year) and gets congested and hay fever symptoms and gets this thing in her throat - she feels there is something stuck there and it affects her vocals and she's always doing that little "hem" cough thing...

Nothing from the chemist has helped... I plan to take her to a naturopath next but thought I'd check if others have this problem and have found a cure...

thanks!

I'm with Tom on this one.

I'm with Tom on this one. Avoid dairy if you can and not just on the day you need to sing but a couple of days beforehand usually helps. I also tend to drink something warm before I sing like hot water and lemon. This seems to clear the throat a little better. A friend of mine swears by a drink she makes herself which consists of ginger, honey, lemon and water. She boils it all together in a pot and then waits for it to cool a little before drinking it. To me it tastes awful but it does have the desired effect.
