Collaboration with Tokyo theater project
Fri, 3 Sept 2010, 09:50 amHello down there!
Seeking an Australian partner for a unique theatre project scheduled for late January 2011. This is part of the Tokyo International Players' Second Stage Series, and will suit a black box type theatre, location anywhere in Australia. The ideal partner will have proven production experience and connections with an established performance space, actors and crew etc.
Please contact me via PM or eMail for further information.
Thanks!

This is probably not the best site to ask for help. You're better off a) contacting a professional Australian venue/company (since this is mostly an amateur theatre site), b) contacting a cultural exchange organisation such as http://asialink.unimelb.edu.au/, c) discovering what funding programs are available through either/both your local government or the Australian government, or d) looking at getting an Australian agent/producing agent.
No one here is likely to offer assistance in producing an international show.

Hi Na,
Thanks very much for your response. Allow me to clarify a bit.
TIP is an independent, all-volunteer community theatre group, and this is part of our "Second Stage" series. It's a one-man show going up in a 40-seat black box venue in Tokyo.
Sorry, I suppose I should have written something more like that in my first post, which I see could come off suggesting this is a large-scale/professional international production.
I'm looking to discuss project details with creative and ambitious people in the Australian fringe theater scene, preferably those involved with a black box type venue.
Cheers,
Monty

Just a thought
Would it be worth thinking about bringing the show to Adelaide for the Fringe Festival here.
Google Adelaide Fringe Festival.
If you want more info after that Private Message me and we can perhaps discuss this further,
Although I am based in Adelaide I already regularly work with a group out of Osaka called Theatre Gumbo.
Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing.

My comments still stand:
My comments still stand: whether it's a one man show or not, you're still bringing a show from overseas (and as part of a voluntary group no less). You're best bet is to approach Australian venues and submit a proposal. That's what we do here (or simply pay money and hire out a venue), it's not going to be much different from you, except for the need to spend money to get yourselves over here.
Logos makes a good suggestion: many overseas performers come over to participate in the numerous festivals (Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne Comedy, Melbourne Fringe, etc), for which you will be able to find information on their websites specifically for people who want to know how to be involved.
Lastly, and most importantly, as I said before this is largely an amateur website and the members here likely don't have experience bringing overseas shows to our shores. However, government and Asialink style programs are specifically set up to connect Australian groups with overseas ones and arrange the exchanges.
There are other sites out there that might be of more use: Artshub.com.au comes to mind.
You also don't state where you'd like to come and perform, each state and city has a different performance scene and some areas might be easier to perform in than others. I'm assuming you don't actually know where you'd like to come, so might I suggest researching the above festivals as they are probably the best places anyway - if you come during festival time or not.
Making contact with companies that are here that specifically cater for a Japanese audience in Australia is a good idea too. They are more likely to want to create a link with an overseas company and would be more likely to assist you in bringing your show over.

Update
We have identified and communicated with some possible venues, so moving along nicely with this. There is more information on the Adelaide Fringe Facebook page: http://fers-info.adelaidefringe.com.au/getdoc/62977e33-0cc7-4eb7-b8ea-f8966cc1b63e/General-Notices.aspx
