As you may know, 2011 will be the final Festival curated by current Artistic Director Shelagh Magadza. I’m sure you’ll agree that, for the 2008 to 2010 Festivals, Shelagh has created an opportunity for all of us to live a life less ordinary. 2011 will be no different; we’re excited to share the program with you in November. In the mean time, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Jonathan Holloway, one of the UK’s most successful festival leaders, to the position of Artistic Director for the 2012 to 2015 Festivals. Jonathan rose to the top thanks to his innovative and artistically high stewardship of the Norfolk & Norwich Festival, where he has been Artistic Director and CEO since 2004. Under his leadership, audiences have grown ten-fold, ticket sales have tripled and the festival has risen to be the fourth largest city arts festival in the UK. Jonathan says of his appointment to the Perth Festival, ‘I am thrilled to have been invited to lead one of the world’s great festivals, in one of the world’s most beautiful places. I look forward to four years of great collaborations’. With Jonathan’s strong track record for community engagement, outdoor performance and arts events for children, this appointment looks to be a real win for our great City. Once the 2011 Festival concludes, we will share with you Jonathon’s vision for the 2012 to 2015 Festivals. We look forward to seeing you at the 2011 Festival. I farely good capture I would have to say.

Why is it that the Perth International Arts Festival Board can appoint an artistic administrator 15 months out, but an AFL team cant even think about appointing a new coach until the conclusion of the season? Well, good on the PIAF board.
