AUDITION NOTIFICATION MALE ACTORS 18-50 YEARS "Journey's End" by R.C.Sherriff Directed by Debbie Smith Genesian Theatre, Kent St, Sydney Season: 13th March-24th April 2010 (Preview 12th March) The Genesian Theatre located at 420 Kent Street Sydney has been producing quality non-professional theatre for 65 years. www.genesiantheatre.com The Genesian Theatre is thrilled to be producing the multi-award winning play “Journey’s End” (Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Play and a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play). Set in the trenches of France during WWI, it tells of the relationships and camaraderie of a group of British officers in the last days of their war. More than just a poignant play about the futility of war and loss of innocence, “Journey’s End” examines inner strengths and issues such as loyalty, responsibility, duty and mateship. There are 10 parts to cast and any actor thinking of auditioning is encouraged to come to the Play Reading of "Journey's End" at the Genesian Theatre on Wednesday 11th November 2009 at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. The play reading is not an audition time but it gives actors an opportunity to hear and take part in a reading of the play and meet the director and other crew. AUDITIONS will be held at the Genesian Theatre on SATURDAY 21ST and SUNDAY 22ND NOVEMBER 2009 Audition times can be booked by phone or at the play reading night on 11th November. Alternative times mid-week may also be available. Characters include: Stanhope: early twenties, athletic, a leader but also torn with dealing with his own demons, drinks a lot to hold himself together Osborne: the "uncle" of the officers, 40's, an ex-school teacher, has life experience, 2nd IC Trotter: working class background, promoted through the ranks, earthy, simple man, coping as well as he can in practical ways Hibbert: 20s -30s, voicing everyone's desire to get out, feels he's done his time, suffering from neuralgia Raleigh: very early 20s or younger, naive, straight out of school, unaware of brutality of war, looks up to Stanhope (a bit in awe of him), was his friend at school The colonel: older gentleman, 50s, a stickler for rules and procedures Company Sergeant Major: 40s-50s, only knows army life, Mason: the officers' cook, always willing to please, takes pride in what he can achieve Hardy: officer from the previous regiment at the front lines, opens the play with Osborne to set the scene, age open A young German soldier: 20s One or two other non-ranking soldiers: ages open Please Note: English accents or well-annunciating non-broad Australian accents will be required. Except for the character of Trotter, the actors need to be thin or athletic build. Actors will be required to maintain a very short haircut throughout the run of the play. Actors at the Genesian Theatre do not get paid, however that receive some complimentary tickets to the show. The cast and crew and also expected to be available every night in the two week bump in period before the show opens, for set construction, technical and dress rehearsals.
