Having trouble posting an event - help!

Hey, I am having difficulty posting an event. When I go to the 'add event' tab on the what's on drop down menu I just get a list of events, no option to add one. Do you need to be a Company to add an event? The event is a workshop - are you allowed to promote a workshop with a personal blog? Thanks :) Ruby
