WANTED : THEATRE FOR SCHOOLS SCRIPTS/WRITERS

THEATRE FOR SCHOOLS SCRIPTS/WRITERS WANTED ARENA is looking to expand its Theatre For Schools Program in 2010 and is seeking suitable scripts for Primary School or High School audiences. ARENA Arts & Entertainment Inc. is an independent Western Australian Theatre Company producing both Theatre For Schools projects and Community Theatre productions. Since 1988, we have created more than 150 arts projects, which have had over 4200 performances for an audience in excess of 990 000. We aim to provide opportunities in the Arts, to encourage the growth of local, grass-roots theatre, and to create original works for new and existing audiences. Scripts should be 30-45 minutes in length to be performed by 2-3 actors with an easily transportable set that can fit into the company van. Subject matter needs to be directly relevant to the school curriculum and have a specific target audience. In the past, we have found that themes that relate to particular times of the year or events (e.g. Anzac Day, W.A. Week, Safety House Week, Harmony Week, Sorry Day, etc.*) have booked the best, although we will of course consider any suitable theme. Previous productions have focussed on such things as : recycling, logging, bullying, W.A. History, self-esteem, theatre history, storytelling, literacy, friendship, family, sunsense, the imagination, cooperation and teamwork, smoking, health issues, dinosaurs, reading, public speaking, mime, etc etc etc., but we always welcome new ideas for shows. ARENA's Theatre For Schools productions are produced on a co-op basis. Writers are paid a set fee per performance, PLUS a percentage share of income above costs. Writers may also wish to direct or act in their own production or leave it entirely to ARENA to produce.
