Hi there, greetings from the UK! Great to find this web-site. Wondered could any of you advise me is there a trade paper for actors or musical theatre performers in Australia? If so do you have name and web-site. Your help would be appreciated. Cheers.

Me again

I have looked at Arts Hub which seems very job oriented. The reason I was asking about a trade paper or magazine is that the Director of Musical Theatre of the drama school where I work is coming over to Australia soon and although it is his vacation he would be happy to audition anyone who might be itnerested in training with us - either a one year postgraduate course or a 3 year undergrad course. I was looking at the best way to advertise this. We run a superb and world wide recognised course, so anyone interested in musical theatre would really benefit from our training. Any help would be appreciated. Yvonne

The only actual paper

The only actual paper magazine I'm aware of is Stage Whispers, which covers a lot of amateur stuff, and maybe pro - I'm not sure. Maybe Logos or Na or Craig might have a better insight into what's available. www.meltheco.org.au

Sorry

I'm not aware of a trade paper or magazine. Certainly nothing like The Stage. Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing. www.tonymoore.id.au

Arts Hub does indeed do

Arts Hub does indeed do news, and I would state that at one point it was as good as The Stage, and probably the best place for arts news. However, they have recently declined in the quality of their content. There is no other trade publication (most of which are online here) which comes even remotely close to The Stage, other than Stage Whispers, which only recently moved towards having more info on pro theatre. There are other sites, such as Aussietheatre.com, or Quietonset.com.au, but basically nothing that would satisfy you. There are a number of sites that come and go that think they can fill the void for theatre info, but predominantly they focus on auditions/jobs and advertising for their customers. You can find plenty of sites for amateur theatre, but none present quality info for pro work (outside of perhaps the FAQ on this site). Puppets and patterns at Puppets in Melbourne

Overseas Performer Courses

A simple series of advertisements in the Arts section of the newspaper might be a cost effective way to promote your drama school courses to prospective Australian students. The Rose Bruford Academy advertises their courses and upcoming auditions that way every year in the Melbourne print media. A website address and additional information about your school, the costs, the course and when your music theatre director is likely to be conducting assessments would also be very handy. Stagewhispers Magazine is predominantly a publication servicing the amateur theatre community. There are some very accomplished and fine amateur musical theatre companies and performers in Australia. Although we do have local tertiary and professional music theatre training courses, it is possible that an advert in Stagewhispers Magazine may attract the interest of some performers seeking to extend their training overseas. Hope this helps. Tulipa.

You know, I should have

You know, I should have read the other comment too: there is no 'one' source for Aussie theatre/film/TV info. It's best if you look at advertising across a range of places, including hard print magazines like Stage Whispers, online sites (including this site which is the most popular Aussie theatre site), and to universities. I know many universities and smaller colleges (TAFEs as they are known here) are often the venues for international theatre course auditions, and many prospective students can be found by contacting or advertising with unis. I agree with Tulipa that newspapers would also be a good place to advertise. If you look in the FAQ, at the article about where to find theatre work, you will find a list of links which might be useful. Puppets and patterns at Puppets in Melbourne
