Orange Theatre Company?
Fri, 15 May 2009, 02:01 pmI have searched and searched and still can't find anything about Orange Theatre Company on this site.
Do any of you know them?
They are an awesome amateur theatre company based in Orange, about an hour or so from Bathurst.
We've had some recognition at the CAT awards (Canberra Area Theatre Awards - http://www.catawards.com.au/) and some of the productions they do have such quality it really is remarkable.
Orange has a population of about 34000, and the OTC is just one of the arts organisations in the area. There's also the Orange Regional Conservatorium which have an amazing Symphonic Choir and Orchestra, among other things like a youth orchestra and choir, and various ensembles.
I myself have starred in four shows with the OTC, beginning in the chorus in 05 with 'Godspell' and most recently played Snoopy in 2008 for 'You're a Good Man Charlie Brown'.
I'm just gobsmacked that there is so little on this site about the regional theatre companies.
Sure we aren't like the big cities with heaps of people auditioning and the cash to put on massive spectacles. But considering all that? You really are missing out on some top notch productions.
The CAT Awards aim to "recognise the enormous contribution made by non-professional groups to the artistic life of Australia" (direct quote from the website - http://www.catawards.com.au/) and you should look into paying some homage to the future actors of our industry, because some of the young actors and actresses in these productions will one day be the ones we see walking the boards in the big cities and on our big screens.
The currently running production of Oliver! will finish on the 17th of May, so it's probably too late to see that.
But later this Year, in October, the OTC will be doing 'The Wedding Singer'. Come and check us out and see what you think.
Thankyou!

I emailed someone at CAT Awards with a link to this post, I found one post by them from back in 2004. I don't understand why they havn't already utilised this network to reach people.
I'll be emailing to OTC and ORC shortly.
Thanks again! :)
