The Truth about Kookaburras
Presented by Pentimento Productions
A play from The Sundial Series

It’s party-time tonight in the dressing sheds of AFL team The Gold Coast Kookaburras. The team is celebrating a win and a buck’s party. Underpinning the celebrations is the pressure of the entire team being complicit in hiding a bizarre secret. By tomorrow, the secret will be national headlines, a team of cops will be investigating a suspicious death and public outrage will jam radio talk-back shows.

Exploring masculinity in the 21st Century, the latest of Sven Swenson’s Sundial Series has been written specifically for production in The Sue Benner Theatre and employs time-shifts and merging realities to skew perceptions and build a finely-woven, sophisticated mystery.

This world premiere of a major work by a significant Australian playwright is a true rarity in today’s theatre landscape: a courageous, contemporary play of humour and human tragedy, written for performance by a large ensemble cast.

Patrons are advised this production contains nudity and frequent coarse language

Written and directed by Sven Swenson
