Community Theatre in Melbourne

Hello! Im moving to Melbourne in August and am looking for a job in community theatre. In the UK I have worked in special needs schools, prisons,detention centres, communtiy centres etc. Does anybody know of any theatre companys that do a lot of outreach work? Thanks!

Can you clarify - here 'community' usually means amateur shows, so are you looking for pro work or amateur? Cause I don't know of any amateur group who goes and does stuff in prisons or anything like that. For amateur groups in your location, click on the 'companies' link at the top of this page. Hi, By saying community I did mean companies that did more TIE work, rather than ameteur productions as I am more of a workshop facilitator than an actor. Could you name any companies that do TIE workshops? Thanks!

Unfortunately I can't give you many names; companies in Melbourne are very fringe and unless you are involved in TIE companies already (which I'm not) it's hard to learn about them. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Arena Theatre Company, that does a lot of TIE stuff. They are located in Nth Melbourne. I would state however that TIE companies generally already have the people they need. and it's not something I would think that you can simply contact them and find work.
