From the company that brought you OH What a Lovely War! in 2008, WhipLash Theatre is auditioning MALE actors 18+ this Sunday for William Golding's LORD OF THE FLIES. A group of school boys, evacuated from a potential war situation, find themselves on a small tropical island after their plane is shot down. There are no adult survivors… With universal themes of power, disorder, bullying and identity this show explores the parallel world in which we live. Its grim lesson shows how close we are to the beast within. Performances: June 24- July 4 2009 at Subiaco Arts Centre (Main Studio) AUDITION WHEN: SUNDAY 25 JANUARY 2009 at 10.00am WHERE: David Lawe Davies Centre, Guildford Grammar School Note: You do not need to register your interest to secure a place in the audition. THE AUDITION: All actors will participate in an open group audition, rotating in groups with the text and participate in a number of group workshops exploring ritual, chants and movement. We are looking for an ensemble of male actors who can work collaboratively and with great energy.`You do not need to prepare a monologue or a script extract. Rehearsals begin in March. To register your attendance please call 9228 2842 or email whiplashtheatre@hotmail.com For further information visit www.whiplashtheatre.com

So is this paid work?

So is this paid work?

WhipLash Theatre is a not

WhipLash Theatre is a not for profit organisation, as a consequence no one is paid. All funds, if any, are used to contribute towards future productions and projects.

It probably helps to

It probably helps to mention that in audition notices.

Just to point out

Hi Tyler and thanks for your post. Just wanted to point out that the majority of audition notices posted in the ITA site are for Community Theatre, this being a Community Theatre web site.

You can usually assume that if payment is not mentioned, then it is not paid. Most paid / professional work will not be seeking talent through a site such as this. They would go through the more traditional channels of Casting Agents and the like.

If you are looking for paid work specifically, then you will only find the occasional posting here, if you're lucky.

Is says "your portal for

Is says "your portal for Australian theatre" not "your portal for community theatre". Therefore, the assumption is that can include professional theatre as well.

This is clearly stated in

This is clearly stated in the "about" section This site is an initiative of the Independent Theatre Association of WA Inc. The Independent Theatre Association of WA Inc. is an umbrella organisation for member groups and individuals drawn from community and amateur theatre throughout Western Australia.

It would be far clearer if

It would be far clearer if stated in the welcoming banner of the site, rather than having to trawl through pages to find that information

You must get so much work

You must get so much work with that attitude.

No stopping

And there is nothing stopping professional organisations from advertising here. However, it is and has always been the way that professional organisations looking to cast actors/performers for paid work will more often than not go through traditional and recognised channels instead of advertising through public sites such as this. Heck, they don't usually advertise in the papers let alone a public Web Forum.

If a professional theatre wants to recruit from this site, I would be the first of no doubt many to loudly welcome the move.
