working title: paint the world red Synopsis: A troubled artist struggles to find his motivation for life while taking beatings on the side for money. Character Synopsis Jerome – Jerome is a young artist (of sort). He has had a lot of difficulty in dealing with life in general; expectations opposing responsibilities, an over-informative society opposing personal choice. In having to deal with this foreboding sense as a painter, an art form that he no longer sees a use for, he has devised a service where he is paid to get beaten on by others. Jerome is young, in his mid to late twenties. He is an emotive person, slightly depraved of a healthy life, but fit enough to take a punch and survive to tell the tale. Deep penetrative eyes with a touch of sadness, he can express emotion succinct without having to say a word. Kyle – Kyle is a close friend to Jerome. He has been around from the beginning, and he helps Jerome conduct the ‘business’ side to the ‘service’ they perform. An intuitive and innocent person, he helps Jerome also come to terms and reason for the art they perform. As he organises the fights, he also understands Jerome’s reasoning and ideologies, and is also clear when it comes to expressing these views. Unlike Jerome, Kyle is more clear-cut. Kyle also in his mid to late twenties, is more organised and well presented. He is the face of the ‘duo’, and a good looking one at that. Bacchus – Bacchus is a professional basketball player. He is a bigger than life character, a celebrity in the eyes of the public, an iconic looking sort of person. However, having to face with the public finding out of his drug habit, that icon has been destroyed and now his true self is has been exposed. That truth is that he is just another person in a world where he was forced to make certain choices based on his status, one that have turned out worse than for the better, and now he feels lost.. With great power comes great responsibility, but sometimes the risks taken when making such choices can be the wrong one, and only after making such choices do we have to deal with it. He is a big, tall, good-looking and muscular person. However he is also depressed; a depression so severe that he is just angry and wanting to inflict pain. Jones – Jones is having an early midlife crisis. Somewhat of a subdued person, he seems to be in a sort of shelled life. He is a homosexual, slightly effeminate (in his choice of grooming), but still with strong sense of masculinity; muscular, staunch, and deep eyes. He has been dealing with the aftermaths of a break-up, and the day of his birthday his friends decide to give an unconventional birthday present, one that will transform him from his submissive state to a vehement one. Brad – Brad is Jones’s friend. He is more of a boisterous sort of person. Also a homosexual, Brad is more in control of himself and his surroundings. Concerned for his friend, Brad is willing to push him into something he knows will help him, even though its unusual and a little scary. In his early thirties, good looking and slightly camp. please contact me with any questions/interests. casting: kathryn_narelle@hotmail.com for Swinburne University. Film and Television.
