Hi all A few of us have got together to create a social club called Little Theatres WA. So far the ideas for our social club are: To have a set outing every two weeks to somewhere all ages can attend to. To have a Social Club house for everyone to go to on certain days of the week. To have a safe enviroment to have fun relax and catch up with theatre friends To put on fun fund raising events for the Club, such as skits, dances, sausage sizzels, and well anything fun we can think of. Lastly to bring all the little theatres together so we can learn from eachother and encourage eachother to grow and have greater shows. Our main website is http://www.myspace.com/littletheatres We would love to get more people on our committee so if you would like to join add us on myspace. Thankyou for you time Melissa Thorburn

A place for friends

Melissa, the concept is great, perhaps considered by some to be even fantastic, but I have one question...."WHERE?"

I realise that you are trying to form a Social Club, and I know that several of us would love to be part of it.... but whereabouts (which suburb) were you hoping that this might come to fruition?

I have checked out the MYSpace site and that doesn't enlighten me much either.... still no indication as to the locality.

To use a rather time worn and hackneyed quote...."Please explain?"

"Just because no-one complains, it does not mean all parachutes are perfect."

Social Club

"to bring little theatres together so that we can learn..... That's what the ITA is for!!"
meltymomentMon, 9 June 2008, 12:01 am

alrighty

Firstly you can alway learn and can learn in more then one place. Secondly the idea has only been started. The myspace is not finished so don't get all flustered for me getting something started. We all have to start somewhere. If you looked at the ideas of rentals for the 'club house' they are all in mandruah. A few of us are begining to realise the club house or hall is a long way away for being decided and affordable. so untill we have at least 10 people wanting to be on the committee or willing to at least help me we will be arranging our meeting at people houses, most likely mandruah. I never ever stated this was going to work or that it was perfect. Nothing is perfect. I am just putting the idea forward and hoping for some help to try and make it work.

no worries

Thankyou for looking at this and giving me feed back. I need all the help i can get to get this social club off the ground. We have recently been offered sometime in Koorliny Arts Centre Kwinana Rockingham. I know its a long way to travel but at this stage with little money this could be a great place. Our first meeting sugguestion dates are the 25th and 26th of July in mc donalds mandurah 7:00. Not fancy i know, however most people know where it is and it wont cost alot to eat as we discuss matters. Then also we are sure to have enough seating. thanks

Maybe you could ask Macca's

Maybe you could ask Macca's to come on board as a sponsor of community theatre while you're there.
TaureanSun, 22 June 2008, 09:22 am

Nothing Ventured.... Nothing Gained

"Macca's Sponsorship" ... not such a silly idea.... They advertise themselves as being community minded and they certainly seem to deliver the goods in other areas such as local sporting groups and emergency/hospice housing, so why not for Community Theatre?

Lord knows, enough performers use them to supplement their diet and their "theatrical income". How often have we seen the T-shirt slogan "I'm a proffesional actor...Would you like fries with that?" or heard the adage - You know your in Amatuer Theatre when your child says:"Can we NOT have Macca's for tea tonight?"

Jokes aside, I agree with what Norma said about "bringing little theatres together so we can all learn" being the job of the ITA, but as I understand it, your group is not intended to be a breakaway from that but an outlet for the more "social" aspects of the theatre world and in that I wish you all the best in your venture. I still feel that yours is a good idea, but I fear you may be hampered by your location, petrol prices being what they are... but on the other hand, if we can expect Mandurians to travel to Perth, why should the reverse not be likewise expected?

Sounds like a good idea!

Hey! I like the idea and I would really like to help out and get involved!! However, I don't live very close to Mandurah, but if there's anyway I can help without travelling all that way let me know! And if it picks up I'd obviously be happy to drive down to Mandurah for the weekend or something to get involved! Jules.

hi all

Well about location atm there is no way we can afford a 'club house' so atm we will be meeting anywhere i live in rockingham. I was just thinking its rather in the middle isnt it? how about a meeting there? I was hoping for a meeting for the end of the month however more nan has got worse and ive had to take on hr care for a couple of weeks. so prehaps end of next month? if need be two meetings can be arranged and the minutes posted somewhere... i dont know how to make a website besides myspace.. so unless one of you are interested? Maccas is a awesome idea i will be putting the idea accross to Lori one of the mandurah maccas managers on sunday. If you can join the mandurah little theatres myspace website or send emails so i can contact more personaly. thanks Melissa

Just clarifying

Hi there Mel! and anyone else reading this thread :) Just confirming incase people have gotten confused in any way. You are asking people to join the Little Theatres myspace NOT a myspace page that is dedicated to Mandurah Little Theatre Inc. You intend this to be a club for ALL Little Theatres. Correct? Also the Raise The Barre (Dance and Theatre Academy) social night is being held at the same venue Mandurah Little Theatre has a number of their shows. This is not a Mandurah Little Theatre event nor is the venue owned/run by Mandurah Little Theatre. Im not advertising this address for security reasons. I'm sure people can contact Mel for more information. Just thought I should clear up any fuzzy lines that may have started appearing. Mel, all my luck and love with the club. possible venues, skits and myspace

Hi Mel and thanks for this great idea. I've put a bulletin up about trying to arrange some skits and then saw your Social Club idea with thoughts of doing skits etc as a part of fund raising. This is what I wrote on your myspace I think. 'Think the Social Club idea is terrific and hope it gets off the ground. We may be able to help with your first fun fundraising event for the Club - we are in need of some fun skits for Youtube so am sure the Club members would be terrific at this! Do talk soon - thanks Jan' Well I do have a few ideas for the Club, and also a couple of thoughts you might like to investigate regarding inexpensive places to meet. Have you ever tried local Family Centre venues. They are VERY cheap eg $11 per hour to hire so you could hire it for an evening or afternoon at very affordable rates. Might end up being 50c or $1 person. You can usually BYO refreshments etc. Usually air conditioned, nice surroundings etc etc. I know of two North of the River Ballajura and Bayswater - both lovely venues. I'm sure they are all over the place so maybe check that option out. They can be hired for all sorts of things too. They often have outside areas also. eg paved areas/grass. Not flash, but very functional and clean. Anyway, food for thought. Do let us know how you go and also if you guys can help out with our skits - ta Jan

If I may, way back in the

Great Idea! I remember way back in the last century. When I was about 10 or 11 years (going on for 30?). Touring with my family, on the boards in the UK. Every Saturday morning from about 9AM to around lunch time. Almost all the main City's in the UK, where there was a GANG SHOW. I could droop in, for what was termed the 'Coffee Council' & meet follow Gangsters from that area. These were always held at the Central City 'Lyons Tea House'. From memory the beverages were for free, as I think Ralph Reader [Mr gang Show] must have had shares in the Lyon's Tea company. It was a great meeting & networking thing. Especially when touring in theatre & living out of suitcases, at the local theatre digs. Anyhow just thought I'd throw my Zak's worth in! You never know your idea may spread to other villages, especially if the Scottish Café would sponsor it?

TOI TOI TOI CHOOKAS
