OZ CASTINGS
Thu, 27 Mar 2008, 01:37 pmJust wondering if anyone has had any experience with OZ castings? I met with Thomas Jones today, and have already paid a $55 deposit for my photoshoot, which is scheduled for Wednesday the 2nd April, and will be expected to pay a balance of $385 on the day. Not having any experience in this industry I only assumed it was customary to pay for a photoshoot to develop a folio...but I haven't been able to find much on this company when I googled it. Help, please!

oz castings
yes I found that when I googled the name, but could not gain access to it. Anyone remember what was written in it? At this stage I'm thinking I'll just call up and cancel...$440 seems a lot of money for an initial photoshoot?

I too had an interview with
I too had an interview with the guy, was more like talking to one of those stall operators in the sideshow alley at the melbourne show.
Doesnt suprise me to hear about everyones bad experiences.
You never know but, you mightend up being casted.
I would count my losses and keep the 385!
Its a bit of a gamble...

As I remember, the thread
As I remember, the thread was another person complaining about having problems with the agency.
Inevitably one person or another comes here, posts a complaint, sparks a debate, which inevitably brings out threats of libel, at which point the thread is sometimes shut down.
The basics of it is: read the post in the FAQ about getting an agent; and go with your gut. If you're not happy with them, don't use them. If you are, do. It's your money being spent, so make sure it's being used wisely.

Thread removed.
Thanks Na.
Your supposition is correct. The following thread was removed at the request of Thomas Jones from Oz casting for reason defamatory postings:
http://www.theatre.asn.au/billboard_bulletins/warning_against_oz_castings
Please note that I do not accept that posts in the thread constitute defamation, however I will act on specific complaints.
Regards
Grant

Oz Castings
I was the one who first wrote the warning against Oz Castings. It was based on a very negative impression of the agency. I realised that many people have had similar experiences. The general content of the posts was that the amount of money asked was too high and the service was poor. I can not recommend the agency to anybody. It does not surprise me that the man running it had problems with what was written, but I can not see why this reason enough to remove it.
