Would like some information about WAAPA, posting from Brasil
Thu, 21 Feb 2008, 12:15 pmHi,
Im from Brasil and Im very interested in the Advanced Diploma of Live Production, Theatre and Events (Costume)
WAAPA course. Im very far though and its very hard to obtain information.I saw that a lot of people here are from Perh or study at WAAPA and I was wondering if someone can help me.
Here are my questions:
- Can anybody tell me how are the admision tests for this course?I read in the site there's a interview and youve to present a portfolio but I woul like to know more details. Thats my biggest concern cause it seems to me the admision prcess is very different from here and Im soo far to afford more than one try...
-Is it possible to work while making the course?Cause I feel like Im gonna need some money.
-Somebody now how many people are in the class? How many are admitted a year for the course?
Thank you very much for any help!!Hope I can study in Australia,Ive only know great people from your country

Hey, I just started at waapa this year doing the lighting course but from what I can gather the amount of time spent is similar amongst all of the production and design courses, you are on campus every single day and generally for 2 to 3 classes of at least 2 hours each plus the time to work on productions, so that equals a pretty much 9 - 6 commitment every day. In terms of the admissions process, I think you can send the portfolio and they will do an interview by phone, I know it could be done with my course so I am assuming they may do it with other courses too.
In terms of working, probably not much unless you can find an employer who is willing to work around your timetable and its changing nature like during the productions etc. And from what i can gather they tend to take 8 - 10 people per year but that can vary.
Hope thats some help!
