I was wondering whether anyone is auditioning for the Amigo Films in australia. I tried looking for their website but all i can find is amigofilms.com - which is the amercan one - and nothing bout the australian one. Im a little curious coz their email is auditions@amigofilms.com.au and i cant seem to find much about it. Basically i just want to be assured that this audition is safe and not a scam.

This was all I could find

This was all I could find on the audition: http://www.digitalfilmcrew.com/2007/12/10/cast-and-crew-wanted/ A quick look-up on their domain name registry came across the information about who bought it: MCBRIDE, BRAD EDWIN JASON Eligibility Type: Sole Trader Eligibility ID: ABN 72910690665 (.com.au domain names must have ABN registration to obtain, so that is most likely either the person who is designing the site, or the person running the audition) Based on what little info was provided in the above link, I would say some further research into the company and production is necessary; as well as perhaps a couple of calls to the organisers. On a slightly different tack: the above link was all that I could find on the net of the audition notice. If this was a legit audition, you would expect to find it on a number of other sites; especially the ones with paid subscription, like Screen Hub, etc. I have never seen the digitalfilmcrew site before, but experience suggests that it's not a good site to look for work. It seems very much set up as an advertiser (ie. picking up money via google ads etc.), rather than something that will provide good quality information on the industry. If you would like some help finding some more reputable places to look for auditions, please let me know. I have literally thousands of arts jobs links sitting on my website, for anyone to use, all of which I used to hunt for arts jobs for several years. They are regularly updated and very reputable. I'm guessing you're looking in all the wrong places for auditions; which is fine if you're new and don't know where to look, but it can lead to a lot of wasted time and effort. (Not trying to be offensive, but many sites have appeared over the past couple of years, which are merely designed to fill a niche corner because they saw money it - not because they know what they're doing or provide useful info. There are actually very few sites for Aussies that offer decent industry information and even fewer that have reliable and up-to-date jobs. Not saying digitalfilmcrew is or isn't dodgy, just that the fact that digitalfilmcrew seems laden with google ads, a web design that looks 'out-of-the-box', and no about page, suggests that they're not going to have the best information out there. Additional to that is the fact that their site appears extremely new - and yet their domain name has been registered in 2004, and is owned til 09. So why do their archives only go to Sept 07?) If you want some decent links of where to look for auditions - especially in your area, let me know. (I'm guessing you're in Sydney?) I have about 45 sorted NSW links - tech and acting based - plus some generic ones for around the country, and thousands of ones unsorted. Additionally, you don't say on your profile what experience you've got and how old you are - I'm again, guessing under 18. If so, I'd suggest getting into a local amateur group and doing some more classes, before going head-over-heels into paid auditions. It appears from your posts and reactions, you need a bit more experience and research before you should try and gain professional work; and perhaps look into both getting an agent, and becoming a member of MEAA. There's plenty of people on this site who'd be happy to offer some advice, and perhaps some other links/contacts for your area. UPDATE:

UPDATE: A quick ABN search on the government business site shows this: ABN: 72 910 690 665 Entity name: MCBRIDE, BRAD EDWIN JASON Entity type: Individual/Sole Trader Main business location State: NSW Postcode: 2088 Trading name(s) COACHING AUSTRALIA Promotional product solutions (It seems McBride has had six different trading names since getting the ABN. This isn't suggestive of anything: I've changed mine twice in the past three years.) Additionally, the amigofilms.com.au domain name goes directly to his host: which either means he hasn't set up his site yet, or he's just using the email hosting and doesn't plan on creating a site. Pat, feel free to download

Pat, feel free to download my list of links: http://www.thepromptcopy.com/pip/theatrelinks.htm There's a whole bunch of links listed in the 'job hunting' category, divided by state. Those that are in the 'job hunting' category, but not divided by state, cover the whole country. There's also a small list of agents, plus a lot of unsorted links. I can recommend the following sites for both cities: Arts Hub Australia, QuietOnSet (both paid subscription, but well worth the money). These are probably the best two sites for job hunting. Arts Connect is another good one, which is more for calls for artists (ie. voluntary stuff), but it's for free. The Program is a government run site, which doesn't often has auditions, but is aimed at youth, and is an excellent resource for grants, funding, and other events. In the list is also some good forum sites for actors, some agents, and a whole bunch of companies around the country. Many of the professional companies advertise roles on their own sites as well, so even though it's time consuming to go through them, you will find it's a much more affordable way of finding news of jobs. You should also sign up with the many free online newsletters that are around, or regularly read arts/theatre/screen news sites. They are a wealth of information, and if you find out that a show is being produced, or someone's gotten a grant, you can then consider contacting the relevant people and seeing if there's any auditions going. For the most part, auditions aren't advertised, so your best bet is to get an agent. However, the sites listed above will help you to do your own search. Please note: the links do NOT cover amateur groups, only professional companies, and only for theatre. For a screen auditions site, try Screen Hub. For amateur auditions, check the auditions page on this site, or contact the companies listed here in the VIC/NSW area. You might also want to try the usual 'schmoozing' concept: most jobs aren't actually advertised, and the tried and true method of just chatting to people will also work. If you do a bit of all of the above, plus look at getting an agent, you'll cover your bases a lot more. Additionally, Melbourne's a really fringe theatre scene, so you can always get involved in smaller groups that are around. Come Fringe festival and Comedy festival times, there's always heaps of opportunities to be involved. Sometimes it's a good idea to do some voluntary tech work (ie. FOH) during festivals, which is an excellent chance to see shows for free, meet other performers, and get to know some of the important players in the industry. I am auditioning for Amigo

I am auditioning for Amigo films too, however they are not disclosing a great deal of information, which i agree seems strange. I am interested in the sites you are mentioning. I live in Sydney and whilst relatively new to acting, i am trying to be as proactive as i can in all avenues.

Some people in the industry

Some people in the industry try their very best not to disclose any info, for fear that someone else will steal their idea and make money from it. But in general, if you are auditioning/applying for a role, and they're not forthcoming with relevant details (like contracts, payments, roles, or a basic storyline), then they probably should be avoided. It's your job to make sure that you are comfortable working with them, just as much as they need to be comfortable working with you. Here's some helpful stuff about where to look for work, including where you can find my links: http://www.theatre.asn.au/book_page/best_places_to_look_for_professional_theatre_auditions_and_tech_admin_work Sticky Apple Legs www.thepromptcopy.com/sal Puppets in Melbourne www.puppetsinmelbourne.com.au My puppets www.collectzing.com/collection/137/
