Hi guys I'm a newbie here, but I've been on this site a couple of times to have a look around. See, I'm aspiring to be a professional TV and Film actress, however due to many different reasons I have had no experience acting except for primary school drama and out of school dance. I was wondering if there was anyone who could recommend decent beginner acting classes around Perth? I've Googled it and the only one that has looked good so far is the Black Swan Thrills and Skills classes. It would be great if anyone knows any more, as I am attempting to build up my skills so I can audition for plays and eventually build a resume fit for WAAPA. Regards, Danika

Stage Door

i think theres a place called Stage Door who take in quite a large age range. it's been a while since i've heard of them though. Actually i'm wondering the same thing. *gets yellow pages* i'll list a few and if ppl could comment on the ones they knows of that would b great. Johnny Young Talent School MSJ Productions WA Academy of Dance and Drama Vogue Entertainment Stagecoach Theatre Arts Schools/ Actors Academy and yep, here we go... Stage Door Modelling Academy; reads: Give you child a head start Ex Students in theatre and WAAPA tuition at its best (pg 676 cl.2 ad 5 Book A-K) hope that helps and makes some sense Erin

Depends!

Are you looking for a full-time course or casual classes? The Entertainment Factory may be a good option if you're after full-time study, otherwise there are a lot of options available as far as acting classes go. PAC (Perth Actors Collective) offer a range of well-respected night acting classes (http://www.screenworkshop.com.au/index.asp), including the Screen Workshop which is regarded as (one of?) the best in Perth. WAAPA offer lots of workshops in June-July as well, including audition masterclasses that may improve your chances of getting in while building your skills and looking nice on your resume! You mentioned that you've done some dance - if you're keen to do some music theatre it'd be well worthwhile to keep up the dance classes. You may also want to consider joining a choir (see http://perthchoralnet.cloader.net/ for one close to you) and/or getting a singing teacher. And while you're building up your skills, some actual theatre experience is going to be very valuable. Keep an eye on the auditions listing on this site and have a go at auditioning for some community theatre productions.

Recommendation

I can certainly recommend the PAC workshops. They are great and apart from giving you new skills and an understanding of different aspects of Film, TV and Theatre, they also bring you into contact with professional members of the industry. More valuable than gold for the aspiring professional.

Is actors management

Is actors management advanced teen film and tv weekly just for teens though?

A friend scoured the internet for me and found a place called Come To Your Senses Drama. Nobody has listed it on here so I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if its a little dodgy. If it is then I wont waste my time or money. Also, I looked on the PAC website and it says that to do the workshops you need experience, which is a bugger coz that's exactly why I am doing the workshops, to build my skills and get some experience under my belt... but thanks anyways

Neke, I'm not sure about

Neke, I'm not sure about Actors Management (you could try calling Nerida and checking) but I do know that ActorsNow (actorsnow.com.au) have adult acting classes on offer every few months or so. I've never actually taken the classes but the list of teachers is excellent from memory. I've never heard of Come To Your Senses. From the website, it seems more like a "just-for-fun" kind of class than anything more - so if you're looking to pursue WAAPA admission, you should probably look for something a bit more hardcore. As for the PAC classes, I believe it's only the screen workshops that require previous experience. Did you have a look at "Acting for the Stage"?
