Recently an extras/acting/modelling agency called Australian Talent Management (ATM) has been advertising current castings all over Australia-wide online job listings. I have been in contact with them regarding a TV series being filmed on the Gold Coast, but I can't find any information on them (other then their job listings and website).
Does anyone know this agency? Is it another NOTM?
I'm a bit concerned. They allow for a free listing on their website but in order to actually be presented to clients, they suggest you upgrade to a $100 yearly membership. I was in touch with NOTM a year ago and I recall they had a very similar system of membership.
If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated. I suspect there will soon be an increase in interest in this agency following the recent spate of casting listings.
Our correspondent suggests I don't know what I am talking about. The AEIA code of practice does not refer to up-front charges, but legislation in most states does (this might not be the case in Victoria). The requirements are different in each state. Check your State for the regulations which apply. In Queensland there is actually a regulation-imposed code of conduct.
In Queensland the Queensland Department of Industrial Relations provides a Information Statement for Work Seekers (Models and Performers) under the Private Employment Agents Act 2005 - Private Employment Agents (Code of Conduct) Regulation 2005. This accessible document setting out the requirements for agents and performers is in a pdf document at http://www.dir.qld.gov.au/pdf/ir/info_01statement2005.pdf
Up front, the Qld regulations require the agent to give the actor a statement that reads [inter alia] "We must not charge you a fee for finding, or attempting to find work for you...."
The Queensland regulation limits fees to 10% of GROSS income (that does not include a number of payments including superannuation, meal allowances etc). And it REQUIRES the agent to pay you WITHIN 7 DAYS and give you a statement of the payment within 10 days. Under some circumstances agents in Queensland can charge more than 10% but the agent can charge more than these fees only if you have accepted in writing a management agreement, under which the agent must be provided you with at least 4 of these additional services:
o Handling of your business affairs;
o Providing accounting advice;
o Publicising and promoting you;
o Providing ancillary services;
o Providing continuing career or artistic advice; and
o Representing you in negotiations with media, entertainment workers or the public.
There is a complaint form on that site.

I suggest you read the whole document and then look at our operating procedures, our legal team did before we started trading. Ok enough of the rubbish.
Maybe this website can prove to be productive than a portal where misinformed, bias, slanderous comments are made.
((Bit Part))Big budget

You are acting like a goose! I was told not to argue with people who don’t know anything about what they are talking about anymore. "They will drag you down to there level and beat you with experience"
Have a great week all and remember don't listen to the rubbish do your own research. www.australiantalentmanagement.com read the about us and ask us for references we can provide them.
Regarding whether it is legal to post messages from other people. Dare 2 Audition always asks its members if it can post their message on the internet beforehand. All the notes of support and thanks can be view on our website under News & Events/Announcements, that I posted here.
More than likely he has started putting up auditions in order to combat all the things about ATM in this thread; and the company may not have discovered this website before/thought it was a captive audience for their marketing.

Why dont you worry about running your own buisness and stop slandering others from your previous postings "We don't have a budget we're not currently producing any work, so it's hard to market ourselves if there's no shows to publicise" I suggest you concentrate on getting a budget and product some work. Do somthing productive and stop the rubbish. As for you Henry we do not cold call anyone so I am not sure what you are talking about.
First of all, I produced a show recently - in April 07. I do have enough of a budget to produce another show this year, but am swamped at my day job and can't take the time at the moment.
Secondly, my puppets are about to be used in a TVC for a project unrelated to my company. While it's not paid work, it is a good chance to have them seen.
Thirdly, a small emerging company is extremely difficult to keep going financially, especially using puppets. It's very expensive.
Fourthly, I did not slander you. I made a couple of suggestions; the first was a caustic comment I grant you, but it may be true, as I've seen other marketeers do similar things on this site. The second suggestion was that you or your company might not spend so much time on the internet scouting for theatre forums as the rest of us do; more an insult on us than you. And the third was that you might not have considered this site part of ATM's marketing plan; agai, no insult on you, you market in the way you think suits your company the best. I wouldn't post an advertisement here if I wanted a real coal miner for a TVC. Coal miners don't read this site, but actors do. Perhaps you would like to give a reason why you are now posting auditions on this site and suddenly flooding the forum with new threads, instead of trying to bait me into another fight?
Fifthly, just because my puppet company has no budget at the moment does not mean I don't know what I'm talking about. I have had an extensive professional career in theatre, undertaking a range of roles, only one of which is my theatre company. If I could work at it full time I would. Unfortunately, the real world does not work like that.
And now to get back to it...

Henry call me on 0430326517 I will answer all your questions
Firstly we dont cold call anyone. We take 10% of our clients earnings, it is free to join our books, what was it about Teresas phone manner that made you wary?
First of all, the above proves nothing. Getting a domain name in QLD when you work in VIC is above board. This says nothing about their work practices, it's just common sense to get a domain name that is cheap. Registering a dot com instead of a dot com.au is also cheaper, and means that you will come up in international searches far easier. Secondly, you pay for domain registration per year, and some businesses prefer to pay per year than per three/ten years (most web hosts offer those three options; one year/three years/ten years). Thirdly, when buying a domain name you must give out your business details (quite personal information, not just your email address and name) to register. This information goes into a searchable online index, which anyone with google could find. This is highly annoying in terms of privacy, so web hosts offer a 'privacy' option, which means anyone who does a search on a domain name sees the web hosts contact info and not the business who purchased the domain name.
The above applies to legit companies as well as it does to dodgy ones, because it is common business practice. Your comments prove nothing about ATM except that they are following normal domain name registration practices.
(How would I know? I bought my own domain name - from a company in NSW, when I am in VIC. I had to do exactly the same registrations, and pay for my domain name one year at a time. PS. GoDaddy is a US based web host)

We do not have a Chris Pi on our books. We changed servers to a faster server. Our programmers did this, we have some of the best programmers in the country and they manage all that for us. I get the impression you are simply working for, or a friend of our competition. If posting rubbish on the internet and pointing your prospective clients to it is the best you can do to try to compete with us good luck.
On our website we have office addresses in Melbourne and Brisbane.

I suspect that our competition is trying to use this forum as an avenue to post up rubbish about our agency so they can send there prospective clients to it and say see look your better off with us. It must be very hard to compete with us so they are trying everything they can to do so. If you read this forum you will see that most of the comments have been proven to be misinformed, bias, or in your case just utter rubbish.
Have a nice day:)
Actually most of the comments haven't proven to be anything but supposition. And I certainly haven't been masquerading as your competition.

In this country you don't have to be a member of the union to get work. However over in the UK, you wouldn't get an audition without membership in their equity union.

So... Matthew Schafer wants to get auditions and be put forward to roles without acutally having even a picture of himself for ATM to market him with.
$100 for a professional set of photos? Bargain.
What I think Matthew Schafer missed is that
"there is a role available"
does not mean
"you will get the part when you audition"
Roland Suraki, are you the only person in existence? Do you seriously believe Thomas is sitting on the end of a phone just waiting for your sweet natured uncommitted wishy washy delusions-of-grandeur call.
So, you signed up, with no picture, no video, no CV, no experience.
And you want work.
The Centrelink lines over there.
Yuh that's EXACTLY the call I got as well. They want $199 upfront over 2 weeks and will cover the cost of my professional photography and show reel.
The first call I got was very uncoordinated and he paused a lot while trying to compose sentences, no phone manners either. Second call seemed better and more organised.
But reading the comments and feedback from people, plus looking at their website, I'm a lil worried about everything now and I don't think I will go. I'm going to send him an SMS and let him know. It's a lot of money up front before they actually get me any work. Though they say they may already have work for me on a cop show as a Police Forensic Investigator.
In my message I am stating that if I do get this extras part, I would do the photoshoot and showreel with them as well for the price they have stated as they would obviously be legit if they got me work.
If not then I won't contact them again.
Meh anyway this was all a hobby anyway.
I'll let you know their reaction. It might not be pleasant or maybe they are everything they say they are.
One way to find out!
