request of script for vagina monologues
I am currently trying to put together a monologue for my HSC exams and thought that the Vagina Monologues could be a great subject.
However I am having trouble getting a copy of the script - I realise you normally would only send out scripts for auditions but I hope you can help me anyway.

Why don't you ask your
Why don't you ask your school to get you a copy?
Any theatre company has to pay royalties according to the number of copies of scripts they need (stop me if I'm wrong anyone, I've never had to pay royalties), and so they probably can't just send you a copy of the script.
Your school however does not need to pay royalties, and if it's for an exam, then it's more than likely that your teacher would be able to help you.

It's not quite like that Na
It's not quite like that Na but... You must pay for scripts because that is the way the writer earns a living. A proportion of the money that is paid for a script is part of the writers livelihood. Schools pay for scripts held in their libraries or purchased for performances.
I have no idea how schools arrange to pay royalties for work that is performed by students as part of their exams but I hope they do. This is the other and often most important part of a playwrights income. Performance rights.
To photocopy a script without permission is to steal from the writer.
Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing.

I was under the impression
I was under the impression that so long as schools are reproducing copies of the script only for classwork, that it was not required of them to pay royalties. But then, I really have no idea.
(I remember seeing such information on copies of my school/uni provided scripts....)
Anyway, the best bet is to check with the Copyright Council for that sort of info.
I still say that asking the teacher for assistance is the best way to go.

There is provision for waht
There is provision for waht is called "fair use." But that normally limits use to a maximum of 10% of the written work. Lets face it it's theft and your taking money from the hands of writers if you treat them unfairly.

Tickets sales for this
Tickets sales for this production, through BOCS are going through the roof. What does this say? Apparently GAIN, Gynaecological Awareness Information Network is amalgamating with Playlovers in this production which includes their launch promoting National Gynae Day on Monday 10th September.

I would like to stress is
I would like to stress is that I am not commenting upon the production but about the young woman who wants the script for free above. I am positive that the production has done the right thing and paid royalties.

It says the public are
It says the public are completely unaware the actors don't get paid, like a colleague of mine who booked tickets - when I told her, she was like "How come?"

To say that GAIN is
To say that GAIN is 'amalgamating' with Playlovers in this production is not correct. GAIN have asked to hold a fundraising event at the theatre with a performance of the Vagina Monologues as the main attraction. There will be speeches, interviews, etc regarding the launch of National Gynae Day, but in NO way could this be regarded as an amalgamation. The fact that the actors are unpaid is completely irrelevant in this context. But, as the Director, I am DELIGHTED with ticket sales and the response to my production. Book early, it will be worth the effort to come and see my girls!

Break a Leg
If you havent seen the monologues before (or even if you have) I urge you to snap up a ticket while you still can. Although I havent seen the Playlovers rendition, I do know that it is a powerful script with stories that will stay with you for some time after.
And a quick note...Hi there Susan,
Just sending you best wishes for the upcoming production. Myself and the other girls from the Mandurah Little Theatre 'version' are looking forward to seeing it (from the audience point of view this time!).
Break a leg!!!

Sending you all my best wishes for a fabulous season!!
